I hate when these lists don't have consistency. Sometimes they put all of the movies in a series as a single entry, and other times, they only use one of the titles. To me, it needs to be one or the other.

In this case they'd have to break them up or move some of the other movies off the list because now the list isn't 100 movies as advertised.

It's an absolutely brilliant Woody Allen movie. Should have been higher.

Anyway, I saw this last week... and it seemed like they wanted to do the whole, put an old movie, the new movie, and seemed more based for a show than any internal consistency.

Some thoughts scanning through the list:

Better Off Dead not on the list. (a movie I have in my personal top ten)

I think I'd put 62 (Pink Panther), 64 (Spinal Tap), and 65 (Office Space) over about 75% of the remaining movies on the list.

Meet the Fockers. . . Holy crap.

Pee Wee at #11? OK, maybe the Fockers are placed right.

It's easy to find fault with all of these type of lists, but this is one of the worst put together lists I've ever seen.

Animal House doesn't stand the test of time nearly as well as some movies.

Caddyshack, for instance, is ten times funnier.

And Pee-Wee's big adventure was funny-- but not Beverly Hills Cop funny.

And, MJ4H, you should look up VH1's 100 greatest women of "Rock 'n' Roll" list. Although, I agree with you that this is a truly awful list. The people involved should be ashamed.

Funny is so subjective. It's always difficult to get a consensus. It's not like drama where it's simply a matter of determining the quality of the movie and not having to determing whether or not it was dramatic.

That said, if I had to pick one movie on this list to torpedo it would be Harold and Maude. That is just the creepiest movie ever made. I like to think of myself as being pretty accepting to a lot of things, but love scenes between a 22-year-old guy and a 75-year-old woman who looked like a 95-year-old women just ruined the idea of sex for me for about six months. My knees still knock together when I just hear the title of the movie.

Heh, black comedies don't work for some people. I'll accept that. The premise of the movie and the thing that sickened you are not to judge books by their cover and I can see how that doesn't work for people either.

But, none of that is creepy.

What is creepy is that this movie came out when I was in the 4th grade. I was the teachers pet that year. I mean very, very much so. When she would give tests I never had to take them. She would have me sit at her desk and talk while everyone else was taking the test.

She is the one who told me about that movie during one of these talks. She avoided the central theme but told me many of the jokes like all the suicides etc. She then said, "you're too young to appreciate it now, but when you get older, if you have a chance to see the movie, see it and think about me."

That, my friend is pretty creepy. :)

I still do find the movie in my list of top ten movies but not top ten funniest movies. I love black comedies, always have and always will. I don't think of her though when watching it. :)

but love scenes between a 22-year-old guy and a 75-year-old woman who looked like a 95-year-old women just ruined the idea of sex for me for about six months.

From the movie:

PRIEST
(very reasoned and slow)
Now, Harold, the Church has
nothing against the union of
the old and the young. Each
age has its own beauty. But a
marital union is concerned with
the conjugal rights. And the
procreation of children. I
would be remiss in my duties if
I did not tell you that the
idea of --
(he swallows)
- intercourse - the fact of
your young, firm --
(growing
disturbed)
-- body commingling with the
withered flesh, sagging breasts,
and flabby buttocks - makes me --
(falls apart)
- want to vomit.

It's funny when either the priest or you say it. :D

Something about Mary is one of the 5 unfunniest movies I have ever seen, although I like the rest of the top 5.

I would have had Stripes and Ghostbusters way higher, and everything from Mel Brooks and Monty Python not only off the list, but all copies burned.

Wow...At least 10 of these movies I wouldn't even classify as funny. Not just movies I didn't find humorous, but I'm talking about movies I've never heard refer to as being funny even by people who liked the movie.

The Naked Gun has to make a list like this.

The Naked Gun has to make a list like this.

It did: 13. Naked Gun Series

This is a stupid list because it's supposed to be the "100 Funniest Movies", but yet The Nake Gun Series (which is about 3 movies?) and the Police Academy Series (which is about 7 or so?) are on there. Huh?

Quite a controversy this has caused...

It's cool, I had a feeling it would turn out this way ;)

Wow I don't think I've ever looked at a list like this and thought not only do I disagree with just about every approximate placing of every movie, but I can't even imagine an argument for any of them. This may be the worst list I've ever seen. Of any kind.

I agree wholeheartedly.
