There is shit on Lifetime that I'd rather watch than the NBA Finals.

I think I would spend time in prison before watching the NBA finals.

I can agree with both of the above posts.

I was in the same camp as the above two posters before giving the NBA a chance this postseason. I had been giving it one shot every 2 years or so since 1998 or thereabouts.

The game has been improved, to me, because they actually call fouls these days. Of course the players whine a lot because they're not used to it. They still don't call nearly all of the fouls, but it's better. Not that traveling and palming have stopped. Once you establish a pivot foot it's apparently not against NBA rules to pivot on the ball of the foot, then the heel, then the ball, and so on until you've moved 5 feet across the court.

Dola, On the Herd this morning Colin was talking about how much higher the viewership would be of the NBA over WC and I just knew that for me even considering watching the NBA over futbol made me ill.

I'd rather play Maximum Football for 72-hours straight with my peener tied in a knot than watch either.

WC games are 9am, 12 and 3 EDT each day. All the NBA finals games are at night. They never conflict.

As for Cowherd's comparisons, they are absurd. You cannot compare daytime cable ratings with evening network ratings. Its not a fair fight.

Why isn't the French Open an option :(? I've been watching about 4 hours a day for the past week. Another 6 days to go.

Only the WC and NBA are mentioned because the source of my line of thinking for this poll was the comparison of WC vs. NBA ratings on ESPNradio this morning.

That makes sense now...I should have known better than to expect ESPN, let alone ESPN Radio, to talk about the NHL.

why?

I played soccer so I'll give you liking to play the game. I'll even say that going to the game has appeal.

It's hard to convince me the game on tv holds any excitement other than a weird "status" thing. Like being above the frey and the nba.

I'm sure there are diehards that can see the intricate way they play the ball back to the keeper but I'm not one of them.

Now of course that goes out the window if you have a strong rooting interest for a particular club. Then I can see following the action on tv.

I find that it's easy to bang on the NBA and if you bang on soccer you just don't "get" real sports.

Just one dummies observation. And yes my initial statement was inflammatory in a way.

I won't watch a minute of the world cup, live at least. Unfortunately with my work sched, i won't watch much of the NBA finals either.

hell, I watch 10+ games a week. It's normal to me. It's the perfect taped/Tivoed thing. have it on in the background. listen with half an ear while you work.

Soccer has the benefit of only requiring 90 minutes of my time. Plus the defined halftime. 105 minutes and that is it.

And bagging on the NBA, at least from me, has always been about the style of play. I love to watch college basketball. And I would much sooner sit down to watch an EPL or La Liga match than an MLS match.

I'll try to watch all the WC games, some live and some recorded. For sure i won't miss any game with Spain playing.
I'll do it for two reasons, first that i enjoy soccer a lot, second because else you can't talk with anybody in Spain, for a few weeks the WC will be the only theme to talk about here.

The last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter of an NBA game only require 90 minutes of your time too...

NHL Stanely Cup > French Open > World Cup > watching grass grow > World Series > staring at a wall for 38 straight hours > watching a frog poop and then eat it > NBA Finals

Please tell me that is you?

While I don't expect the Cup finals to be a lead story...I think more people are hockey fans than most people believe. Pittsburgh is by no means a huge city, but there is a solid, rabid, die-hard hockey following.

I was thinking the frog eating the poop, but to be honest, all three of those would be better than watching the NBA Finals, so take your pick. :)
