I sent an email to Gamespy, and the guy who answered seemed to misinterpret my question, so I have sent back a reply.

Hopefully there will be more news later today.

is the current feeling "it doesn't look good?"

edit: I think we'd all be able to deal with losing the old board, as long as we at least had a few days to scramble and get anything off it we wanted/needed.

I'm just glad I copied the Bill Gates Challenge after one of the scares in the past... I hope others did the same. It'd be a shame to lose them all. Not to mention the Golden Scribe awards thread.:(

Eww. I hope that's not the case- I don't want to lose all those reader participation threads of old.

If you have anything important you want to back up, head over and get it now, as I don't know how much longer the board will stay online.

Someone fill me in on the details..

I'm assuming the old FOFC board is either owned or leased by either the current Moderators or some group of people closely associated with the board.

If it was purchased, wouldn't the board stay up indefintely, with the ability to post onto that board just being made unavailable, as is the case currently?

Or, was that Board rented or leased for a certain amount of time and once that expires, the board is deleted for good?

I'm saying this in light of what SkyDog mentioned about donations for the new FOFC Site on which I am now posting this message. I really don't know how this whole, paying for a board such as this one, works, as I've never actually done something like that myself.

Thanks!

We were paying for the software, not the server. The server is provided free from gamespy and it seems they may want that server space back.

There we go.. The explanation I was looking for..

So with this new board, the software was the only thing that changed then? The Board is still served by Gamespy correct?

Thanks Grant!!

I don't think Gamespy are bothered about the server space, so I doubt they will get rid of the board for good.

They are worried about the bandwidth that the old board uses. When the old board is active it slows the server down to a crawl, so they want to disable access to it.

can we just put a html file in it's place saying the board has moved then?

I heard if you read the old board backward it would say "board is dead."

And I'm working to backup the X-com dynasty like someone proposed.

I think 3ric has already backed up X-Com, but more backup can't hurt.:)

Are there really 41 pages of threads that don’t contain any posts?

Was this due in large to the unsuccessful transfer attempts?

Does this have any negative effect on anything what so ever?

Will this ever change?

Thanks
