Ok. This has HUGE potential for this community I would think, particularly for MP leagues, etc.

This lets you use Excel spreadsheets, load them in here, share them, edit them live with other users, etc.

It is AWESOME.

I signed up, and they told me they would email me when it's available.

Looks like it could be cool.

Yeah, it may take about 24 hours...

One thing cool about the live edit, is you can chat with others editing.

So it actually is available, then? Why do I have to wait 24 hours?

They do this with all of their beta stuff in the first week or two that it's out (calendar, etc)...

I think it's probably to manage the load on their servers... Since it's the new thing, they don't want it to roll up on slashdot, etc. and then have everyone signing up for the first time and bogging down the servers.

Sounds good -- I guess I'll wait!

I hear a certain Canadian developer is working on Maixmum Spreadsheet. From the website:

Maixmum-Spreadsheet is the ultimate number cruncher for the PC.
While the rest of the industry is abandoning the PC market for the web world of online spreadsheets, Val d'Inverno is providing a PC spreadsheet like no other.
Unmatched in flexibility, Maximum-Spreadsheet is truly the first 3D graphic charting program of the millennium.
Subcript error in the following Formula (Error OE812)
Maximum-Flexibility = Maximum-Spreadsheet.

You could just go here and sign up:

I got my invitation the next morning after signing up that way.

Why do you need google spreadsheet for this? Couldn't you have put it up anywhere anyway?

I had shared it with the IHOF crowd, but have been meaning to polish it up more before sharing it here. I still want to do more cleaning up, but I figured it was at least something for anyone that wants to play with google spreadsheets and the sharing feature to play with it. Rather than just some random spreadsheet that had no meaning ;).

Done.

FYI: All I'm doing is inviting you to my spreadsheet. That automatically gets you access. So if you have friends or whatever that want in, just u/l or create a spreadsheet and share it with them.

Thanks. I had to do it, considering the "spreadsheet" put down us FOFers and other text simmers get.

Ok, I've just been foolin around with this a little bit today and I know it's in it's infancy stage, but man there are a lot of things that you can't do yet.

I hope they keep adding functions to it.

What I've seen that you can't do is mostly formatting type stuff.

You seeing something different?

I guess I didn't word that very well. Yeah, it's just a bunch of fomatting stuff that is missing.

I haven't gotten THAT in depth, that's why I was wondering..

One thing that could hinder a lot of my potential use is the references to other spreadsheets which I use fairly frequently. It seems to basically take a snapshot of the reference, but will not update if you update the referenced file. I'm not sure if they even CAN make it work, which kind of limits me.

I hope so too, because aren't computing mathematical functions some of the key tasks of a spreadsheet?
:D

I keep a spreadsheet of my team while playing FM and just some of the formatting that I use that's missing is being able to shrink down the page size, like sizing it down to 90% for example. I like all the players attributes to fit one the screen. Plus, you can't format the text to run vertical as opposed to horizontal. Just being a bit picky on a selfish note. :)

I do like the idea however.

No conditional formatting either, which is a pretty big negative for me.

But I'm just thinking about how they've added little improvements here and there to gmail, etc. so I look at this as a great building block.

I just got my invite, but haven't tried it out yet. When you say no conditional formatting, do you mean that if you have conditional formatting on a spreadsheet, it won't work, or you can't add conditional formatting to a spreadsheet in the editor?
