I swear someone has asked this before. There's some sort of contraption you can buy that keeps the hat in shape while it is washed.

Somebody (my mom I think) bought me one of those contaptions when my hat was foul from working on a roof in the summer. I haven't heard anybody say it's useful, I just washed my hat by hand.

I've also heard that OxyClean works pretty good.

Throw it in the washing machine then just reshape it and set it out in the air to dry , DO NOT use the dryer on it.

Start using Herbal Essences and your hat will smell fine in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, that was me that asked before. I bought one of those contraptions (they sell them at any Lids hat store), and have used it a few times. It takes a layer of the crud off but not the deep sweat stains. But then I sweat a lot in my hats - not Esteban Yan level, but quite a bit.

You need to get "Lids" from Hat world when you first get the hat and spray it with the stuff, it will then repell stains from sweat, water, etc..

I just washed one, actually. I throw it in the washer on a cold "gentle" cycle and air dry it. Works like a charm.

I would probably go with the dishwasher idea too.

Go to the nearest bowling alley and yell, "Hey, I need an ugly broad to wash my hat".

I had a fitted fighting squirrel's hat and the wife washed it and it shrunk down to junior mint size. I'm still pissed about that and it was something like 4 years ago.

I always let it soak in the sink and use shampoo to cleanse it. Works fine for me...

Probably a "wool" hat, I've washed many(cotton or cotton blend) hats and never had this happen.

At this point, it's time to buy a new hat. Move on.

Yeah, that's how I get my hats to shrink actually if they're the authentic ones. Get it soaked in warm water, then wear it until it dries. Fits right to your head after that.

I used a washing machine once, it tore the thread on the brim of my hat so I never tried again.
I always using a dishwasher. Put it in by itself for 1 cycle and its fine.
