Did you really unlock a thread just to comment about a local sports columnist(ping JimGA thread)? I mean, i thought back when jeeber was unlocking threads and commenting to mess with a friend of his this sort of thing was kind agreed upon as a bad thing for a mod to do. And i was was the one who caught it and started the discussion in the mod forum, so i know. Maybe i miss the point of the post, but barring some official ruling or announcement i dont think this sort of stuff should be happening. Maybe no one else cares, but just like when i saw jeeber do it i feel compelled to note i am against this sort of stuff unless it for a reason pertaining to the resolution of problem or for the purpose of mod announcements related to that thread.

Id be happy to handle this by PMs if you would prefer, but i would like some kind of response or explanation. I may be entirely missing the meaning of the post, and if so i apologize. Just wanted clarification of the action taken.

I just responded to a thread. I had no clue it was locked. I guess since I've got mod authority, it automatically unlocked it. I don't have enough time these days to get involved with mod decisions one way or the other. It was just a hit-and-run posting. Sorry. I'd lock it back, but I'm not sure I know how...

It's still locked -- mods have the authority of posting in locked threads. Not knowing that, I would think it was in bad form too -- and posted as much until I saw your response. I have no doubt it was an innocent mistake.

It might be worthwhile to make to look out for things like that, especially in a thread you should have known was going down hill. I'd delete the post if it were me, but that's just me.

give him a break blade, it wasnt like he posted something that was part of the argument that got the thread locked...he was making fun of chris rix, which IMO, is something we should have several threads dedicated to on a regular basis.

Becuase in my past experiences with him, i have sent him 2 PMs over my time here at FOFC(admittedly a long time) and recieved 0 replies. Neither were recent, but some people are much easier to get a hold of this way then PM. Some are better through PMs.

He says it was a mistake, and i believe that. I asked for an explanation, he gave one, and im satisfied. But there is a track record for a mod abusing his powers in this way, so i was merely making sure he was not doing the same thing. Im quite happy with his reply, and for me its a done deal

I've got to get back to studying, so let me just say that (a) I haven't been on the site since last night, and the thread wasn't locked the last time I read it that I'm aware; (b) I hardly ever look at those symbols on the side of each thread, and in the past the only way I would have known about a locking would have been reading the thread when it happened or trying to post and not being able to; (c) all I did was read Troy's response and respond to it - I didn't even remember what the thread was originally about; and (d) I'd be more than happy to give up my mod powers because I don't use them and I'm so freaking busy with a move, new job, and studying for the Bar that I won't be around enough to see what happens around here on a day-to-day basis like I used to. The locked thread being a prime example.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to relearn wills and trusts.

Good luck with that. I don't envy having to relearn all of that information again. Probably a lot that you will never use again. Good luck with all that stuff you are working on.

No offense or anything... (and I don't think what you did in the locked thread is any big deal)... but we have a dozen or so guys running around with the mod stick, and it doesn't seem like very many are really doing much with it (or even know how).

I can't speak for the other mods, but I do try to read most threads and try to look for scenarios I think are getting out of control. I let a lot of things go because I think the board is functioning pretty well right now.

I wouldn't say that the mods are doing nothing is appropriate. I'd say we've had relatively little drama in awhile and that the things that have been suspension worthy have been dealt with rather swiftly. (ie Wrong Way/IWasHere)

Have there been posts that have tightroped the line a little? Yeah, there have. We discuss every reported post. I'm sure some on the board will disagree with me on this, but I think things are going pretty well right now. I see little need to rock the boat now. YMMV.

Blade is kind of like that kid who was a hall monitor, but had it provoked. He is now going to everyone's locker trying to find some dirt so he can get that badge back. He is also making sure everyone knows that he is doing us a great service by pointing out that a mod posted in a locked thread.

Exactly. What else was the point then. It wasn't like Ksyrup's post was about the topic at hand, it was about the Chris Rix academy for goodness sakes.

Yup, exactly.

I wouldn't have bothered responding to Franklin since he's merely trying to stir the pot for no good reason as he always does, but since you posted this good response I wanted to reply.

The perception that the mods "are doing nothing" just because people have not been boxed/banned is a false one. You may think that someone should be boxed/banned for something, but the mods may not agree. Either way, every "grey area" or reported post recently has been discussed by the mod and decisions on whether to box/ban have been made based on the rules laid out to all of you when the mod changes were made.

Oh, and, the whole "a dozen or more" and "hundreds" and whatever mods is just silly and annoying. There are 7, and they were all listed in the original thread about the changes.
