This is correct. I'm considering driving into Pittsburgh tonight or tomorrow to see the Cardinals. I've been a Cards fan for almost 25 years, and I haven't ever seen them play live. Of course, knowing me, I'll probably be too lazy to go (especially since my wife's out of town, so I'd have to go alone). Hopefully, even if I don't make it, the Cards can keep getting great pitching and take out the mighty Pirates this week.
By the way, on a completely different note: I don't know if any of you guys knew this, but Craig Wilson painted the Mona Lisa. Carry on.

And there was much rejoicing amongst Cards fans (and fantasy team owners)

Thank God Toronto is cheap. Couldn't picture this staff without Carp right now.
Marquis can't throw strikes (trade him while 8 wins means something); Mulder has reverted back to 2005 mechanics; Tubby is good for 6 innings at the most in any one start; and Suppan is the 4.50 era man on his good days.
If Mulder doesn't unfuck himself quick, the Cards are going no farther then round 1 in the playoffs, and that is provided the NL Central continues its downward spiral that would allow us to win. I think we've got to ditch one of the soon-to-be free agents and insert Reyes into the staff. We suppress talented rookie pitching unlike any team I've ever seen.

Pittsburgh asked for Anthony Reyes in return for him...at that price, I'd assume he not only painted the Mona Lisa, but also married her and had several little Mona Wilson's running around. I guess you have to be sporting a Cubs hat to get a deal made w/ the Buccos...nice trades there, fellas.

Just to complete my mention of Craig Wilson (since I don't follow minor league baseball enough to know this Anthony Reyes guy):
For each Pirates player's first at-bat at a home game, they show a little video on the scoreboard of the player painting something. After 5-10 seconds of seeing the player painting, there's a final shot which finally reveals the "masterpiece." Some of the players paint their names, a couple of the foreigners paint their native flags, one guy painted a sailboat, etc. It's pretty cool. In Craig Wilson's video, however, at the end of the video, you see his canvas with a bunch of squiggles on the sides and a full-color replica of the Mona Lisa which must've been pasted on in the middle. That's just bizarre.
How could the Cards not trade for a guy who appears to be able to paint the Mona Lisa? I mean, c'mon...

Why the apostrophe, dude?

Why the apostrophe, dude?
Because the St. Louis Cardinals franchise, by law, owns all of their fans. Thus, the possessive apostrophe.

Is there any chance we could have him pitch every day?

Reyes is most commonly compared to Prior...for probably a couple reasons...both pitched at USC...similar mechanics/delivery...live fast ball in the mid 90s...and both have histories of arm problems.
Reyes is the power pitcher the Cards need, but he doesn't fit the profile of the "sinker baller pitching to contact" that Dave Duncan and LaRussa demand. Their thought process is why throw 3 to 8 pitches trying to strike someone out when you can induce a groundball with 1 pitch down in the zone. Guess you can't argue with success, but Reyes doesn't fit this mold, as he routinely pitches up in the zone in the mid 90s and mixes in a nice changeup, racking up the strikeouts as he goes. Duncan is old school hard headed and instead of letting the kid try to succeed his way, they force a 2-seamer on him in spring training, which was the pitch he got ROCKED on in spring training games while experimenting with it, thereby pretty much sabotaging any ability he had to beat out Tubby for the 5th spot in the rotation.
My opinion is he is probably in the top 5 young, big-league ready pitchers in the game. He's pitched about 5 games in the bigs counting last season and this one and never really had anything resembling a bad outing, usually putting up 5 or 6 innings of 1 run baseball. Pittsburgh asking him for the platooning Craig Wilson is akin to the Blues offering Cajanek for Marc-Andre Fleury or the Rams floating out Frerotte for Rothelsberger (pre-crash).

The only reason Wilson is a platoon player right now is because Dave Littlefield and Jim Tracy are f'ing idiots. He's not a star by any means, but he is a decent player who deserves to start every day over Jeromy Burnitz or anyone else the Pirates put in right instead of Craiggers.

Yep. Different shit, same Pirates.
