[Lebron] James, saying he has a 3.5 grade-point average, thought the store was rewarding him for his schoolwork.
Is he trying to come up with some excuse to get out of the situation, or is he just some kind of fucking retard.
He'll, I have at least a 3.5, maybe I can take my transcripts down there to get $900 of free merch.

You've never heard of this? At my high school, a 4.0 scored me some blow from the local distributor - part of his "school entrenchment" philosophy. Nowadays, it's just a stinkin' Wes Unseld uni.
Must be the economy.

a local sports guy argues:
the HS kids never get to see the rulebook. even if they do they never read it. Thus the kids should not be held accountable.

It's good that he's learning to trust in his lawyer to solve all of his problems for him at this young age. Also, you can never learn the art of spin control at too early of an age, and that the blame game will get you out of many a bad situation. Congrats, Lebron!

i think he was being a bit sarcastic with that comment. I bet he had a big grin on his face when he said that. Like when they ask a pitcher if he was intentionally throwing at a batter, he says, "I just missed my spots" wink wink

I know this has been discussed before, but i really don't blame him. I truly believe he didn't know it was wrong. If he did, why would he only take 2 jerseys and not sign the big shoe contract waiting for him that would have got him the same punishment.

Because he thought he could get away with this.

I guess I could understand accepting the jerseys, but to then claim you thought it was for academic reasons when you do get caught?

When I was in fifth grade I got a free Pizza Hut pan pizza every month for reading at least 5 books... that was pretty cool.

I want to give James the benefit of the doubt, but for a kid supposedly so smart, he sure is dumb.

Just goes to show, some people are born stupid, and some just work at it really hard.

How tough are his classes?

Perhaps i am really wrong here, but how i think is it really doesn't matter what "his" classes are. Now it is great he is a good student, but isn't school there to prepare you for what you are doing in the future. Now just about everyone doesn't have the clear path to the future he does, so this applies more to college than high school, but shouldn't he be applauded for working so hard to get were he is. I can bet he isn't just this good without trying, just like great minds are really smart without studing or testing themselves. But no one goes around and says that "Einstein was a smart kid, but he couldn't hit a curve ball to save his life. He really shouldn't work so much on school and should get out and play baseball more, it is great that he is smart and all, but he is one hit up side the head from being stupid and stuck being unable to do anything but be an athlete, so he better prepare for the worst."
So i guess my point is, why would anyone blame Lebron for going after his dream so hard when we don't get pissed at people who aren't smart enough to be in college, but find a way to attend and then drop out after a year. So even if he isn't successful in the NBA, at least the kid worked his ass off for his dream in life.

I guess I tire of Lebron's appearance at being smart, so what if he has 3.5 G.P.A. if it's in remedial classes. Don't state you are a good student when in fact you are simply faking it so you can be a basketball star...

What I am saying is the only reason he states he is a good student is because everyone questions him on it. How is geography, history or really math beyond the easiest levels of high school going to benifit Lebron on his way to the NBA which is his dream. Now math maybe money wise, but most millionaires have accountants and advisors that help with that and the NBA provides help to its players to help prevent fraud. I think the only problem people have is his dream is to be a basketball player, not a doctor.

geography - he needs to know what city a team plays in when he is asked: "ummm, the Hornets, thats in New Orleans Louisville, right?"
history - He needs to know how others have squandered success and talent, and to watch out for his "friends". Et tu Brute.
Math - Well, with as much as he'll make, he better damn well know how to count it so his "friends" dont take it all.
And i know plenty of Catholic school kids, and they all graduated with 4.0, got to college, almost 75% failed out. At least in this state, private school teachers don't have to be state certified.

I just think that if he's going to be a pro baller, then why hype his G.P.A. which obviously, probably in courses that aren't demanding.

Lets hope he passed the sixth grade where most of this stuff is. If not, I am sure his agent could help him out there.

I am sure we all know lots of very smart people that don't have people skills. School doesn't teach you how to judge the character of those around you. Again lets hope with the money he gets, he can surround himself with people that truly care about him and his success.

Again the league helps with that by helping set up players support groups. From all i have read, he is close to his mother and family and hopefully that helps out.
Again i say this which no one has reply to, why is it that we only are down on athletes who don't have back up plans. We never tell doctors or lawyers to have back up plans. We never tell a doctor, "Great you want to be a surgeon, but your one saw accident away from being a bum, your better also learn to be a radio broadcaster incase you lose use of your hands". It is the kids dream to be a basketball player and he has probably put more work into his dream than any of us have to ours.

Actually, I am planning on becoming a lawyer, and my girl a physical therapist. I've been heating for the past 5 years, what are you going to do if you don't get in law school, same with my girl.
We constantly tell people to have a backup plan.

Yeah, it is good to have a back-up plan, but are you asked to focus more on your back up then your dream. probably not, but for him, it seems everyone focuses on school which for LEBRON JAMES, not every athlete, should be secondary to what will earn him a living and provide for him and his family for the rest of his life. It just seems he is critized because he doesn't want a "real" job.
