CM 03/04 question

Due to all the World Cup hoopla (which I'm enjoying for the first time ever), i pulled this off the shelf and gave it a fair try. I selected what I figured would be an easy starting club (Manchester United). After searching and reading threads on this forum to learn more about the game, i'm enjoying it. One question that I have is, am I able to manager a national team when it comes time for the World Cup in the game? If so, is it a position i must apply for, or are you asked/assigned in the game?

You will have to create a new manager when the time the World Cup comes around. You can then pick him to manage any team in the World Cup that has enough loaded players.

or if the job comes open your existing manager can apply for it

There's generally a few International jobs going as the game progresses so keep your eyes open and apply for them as they become available - you're at a big club so presuming you do reasonably well you're in with a chance of grabbing one at a minor nation (don't expect to get the Italy job with a years Premiership experience though ;) ).
