I swear everytime I go to the cooktable restaurants I leave and end up in a bathroom with the shits. What is it about their food that destroys me and, from what I heard, most of my friends. I heard their shrimp sauce is a killer for this, is that true? What are your experiences with this? I don't think that there is much lactose so I dont think that could kill me, but maybe the oil? Do they use more oil than most places?

Nothing too unusual about it that I know of, and no similar umm ... consequences to eating there for me.
I'd say the average Japanese meal actually involves less oil than most meals I eat, so that doesn't seem like a likely culprit. Do you have a similiar problem with seafood cooked other ways? That'd be my first thought. Next idea would be either ginger or something else that is used frequently in those places that isn't typically found elsewhere.
I've got a similar mystery problem with one particular Mexican restaurant that we go to. I eat the same dishes there that I eat at other places without a problem but something they do differently doesn't agree with me at all. Since the basics are pretty much the same, I'm almost sure it's some sort of spice but I haven't been able to figure out which it is.

spices may very well be a culprit. Certain peppers can have that effect on people.

Spices certainly could be, but more likely you have a mild intolerance for seafood. I love seafood, but shrimp, crab and lobster all give me the runs. I've learned to accept this minor discomfort for the succulance that is seafood.

Did you eat anything they made that then was subsequently prepared with mayo and/or egg? If so, the mayo is the likely culprit.

A lot of people are allergic to MSG (Monosodium glutamate) and it is a common flavor enhancer in Chinese/Mongolian/Japanese food.

All that stuff is pretty greasy too. Greasy food can give you the shits.
