OK. I want to back up all 12 seasons of my Kentucky Wildcat dynasty, as I intend to continue it. Is there a better way to do it than simply copying it post-by-post? Let me know.

I think that's what your going to do if you want them here in the dynasty forum. If you just want to back up though, here's what I do. I havent had any luck with programs which automatically back up, so I do it manually.
1. highlight everything from my name in the first post until the last word in the last post.
2. Paste it into Microsoft Word (this will generally take a minute or two)
3. Save it as HTML.
It doesn't come out looking too bad, and it does a reasonable job of keeping everything (formatting) together.
The drawback is you'll need webspace to post it too if you want to be able to let people read it/link to it.

Ahhhh! Beautiful!!! I didn't think of that!
And of course I just bought more web space than I need for my CD web site.

This is great....I'll need to spend just a few moments updating links, but here's how a season ended up looking: <u>Kentucky Wildcats 2002</u> (http://www.benelou.com/kentucky2002.htm)

See, it looks light a slight hack job, but the info is still there, and relatively well set-up!
I'm glad it worked out for you.

Holy Cow.. SkyDog, how did you get the look of an FOFC Thread onto your own site?
Talk about saving time... I need to know this..

I have obtained very good backup copies of my Nebraska Blizzards Dynasty by pulling up the thread, then using IE, going to View, then Source, then saving the source as HTML.

this never works for me (which is why i go the cut-and-paste to MS Word route).
I get the frame info, but an error message within the source saying "sorry this site uses frames"

Hey CT, any differences when using Corel Wordperfect instead of Microsoft Word?
The Home PC has the KMart Version (Corel) :)

Please say someone's backed up the FOF journal.

as long as it can save in html, i would think it should work...
give it a whirl.

Someone should save X-Com. I think Godzilla Blitz hasn't been around much, and losing the X-Com threads would be terrible.

Have I ever mentioned that I am totally inadequate with computers?

Kodos said he was inadequate! :D
Gotta love partial quotes and taking things out of context! :)

Sadly, it is still true, even when taken out of context. :(

Is the other board going to be erased? I might be able to try transferring stuff over in a couple of months if it's still there.
Before then would be tough. I've gone into power thesis-writing mode. Want to get this thing finished.

I was concerned about X-Com, I know you're busy.
I've saved the X-Com threads to my computer, but anybody else is welcome to do so as well, to keep multiple copies.
The archive with the filed threads is here:

That's cool. Your method is obviously better than my primitive copy and paste into word method...
Yeah, I save them in a self-contained format with the images enclosed. Quick and easy. I don't know if other browsers than IE can open *.mht files, though. That's easy to correct later, if the need arises.

3ric: Thank you! I just grabbed them off your server. Sorry, this is a stupid question, but what's the best way to view them? I tried with Word, but it looks like a lot of text is code. IE returned a message saying "Simple Text document is too large".
Thanks again. I grabbed the last Part V using the "copy and paste" method but it was taking forever.

Well, I use IE6, and just double-click on them from the directory on the hard drive where I put them. That's my concern, older browsers (don't know about IE5) might not understand the *.mht format, which could make them less accessible to others.
The solution would be to extract the HTML from the files (which is easy) with either IE (use Save as HTML) or a text editor.
The first part of the files is gibberish, since it is the images encoded in MIME format. Scroll down and you'll see the HTML code.
Putting them on a web site (like SkyDog did) is probably the best way to go, but this archive at least secures the threads for the future.

3ric: Thanks. I was trying to look at them using IE5 on a Mac. That must have been the problem. I'll try IE6 on the PC later.
Thanks again for grabbing everything!

CT, or anyone else who'd like to respond.. I tried using Corel Wordperfect and unfortunately it did not look anything like the Microsoft Word version at all.
I'd like to be able to save my Dynasty Threads as an .htm to MSWord and then upload it onto my Dynasty Website for keepsake, ala SkyDog.
What I'm wondering is, is there any Free Download out there anyone is aware of for Microsoft Word?
Thanks!!
