I don't know what is going on today, but this needs to stop. First the comparison by dickysty and now this:

Straight from the Maximum Football Forum.
Interesting Read I would Say.

Well, gather round boys and girls and I'll tell ya a little story about the way things went down and why they are the way they are. Believe it, don't believe, don't matter to me. This is for the historical record. I'll post here once, I will not post again.

BACK BEFORE SHORTY WAS CONCEIVED ..

There was a game called FPSFBPRO98. Daivd was writing text sims at this time. Fabulous coding. Yet no one saw any of his masterpieces since he quickly got bored with it and left that behind forever.

So, Daivd decided, in his spare time, from the best neighborhood of Canada (and we'll leave that obscure) .. that he would .. try. Try damned well to make a universal football game.

Now, about this time, along comes TWO fellas .. one from Canada .. Daivd .. and one from ANN ARBOR, MI, Jim.

I was in the position to know all of this because I was The General Manager of a "Great White" Sports Network of sites that numbered about 250 billion for the sixth largest Internet company in the world. So, both these individuals were supported by me, giving them a lot of press through my blog. *I*, personally, took an interest in both these games. In an interview, back before Hell Atlantic screwed a hoagie, I actually got Daivd to commit to a date of release. It was merely rumours before then and betas. This was the first time he actually mentioned a release of a game and it was to be in early 2004.

The same time, Jim (who doesn't swap the letters in his name, can't figure out why) .. was after me to take a look at his damn text sim. So, I did.

I told him: Here's the deal ..

You're gonna make your money off of MULTIPLAYER. Leagues that can play the game. You'll get 30 buys a pop. So, he says "I am already doing this" and we go in to this 3 month .. thing .. of me sending ideas and him ignoring me and I say "No .. no ..no ..customize this." The reason I was so well versed in this was that I ran a legendary league on the web that involved the Lead Designer of Total Control Football and many members of the Backyard Football team and also the Sports writer named Druez, TONS of people who played free games, The Ultimate Big Stakes Ego League .. The King of All Leagues of All Time. It was unreal, the competition. Simply unreal. FOF's Multiplayer was derived DIRECTLY FROM THIS LEAGUE. Every league that uses FOF uses this league as their prototype because THAT'S what it was designed around. All we were ALL trying to do, the Total Control Football guys, the guys from other companies that played there, the guys that played illegal games, EVERYBODY ... all we were trying to do was make a better football game to play our league with. And we got this schmuck in ANN ARBOR, MI to code it for us so we didn't have to do it.

This legendary league was known simply as: "GW'sFBAStartOct292006".

We were also the very first to use SI's Football engine, Football Manager, until we found out it was soccer. That's another story.

So, if you look closely at the manual to FOF2004, you'll see they forgot to credit me with the online portion of this game. Not entirely true. I told Jim everything he needed to do to make a successful game and he pretended to ignore me as he followed my advice to a 'T'.

Meanwhile, and I still have the e-mail, Daivd, I told Daivd the same thing and Daivd said, quote: "I could see the day when Maximum Football is somewhat customizable". I still like Maximum Football more from the screenshots that I saw and I believe it to be a FAR, FAR superior game of football.

Why?

Because I was on the OUTSIDE when both these games were being birthed.

Why is FOF20O4 all screwed up and ALWAYS WILL BE? Because it's not football.

Think what you want of Jim, and I love the guy myself, but .. I saw it time and again .. you can't grow up in a place where there is an inferior brand of football (NFL) and then make a game that simulates it.

Daivd played Canadian football. Daivd is Canadian. What do you want me to tell you? You want me to lie and tell you the politically correct thing? Sorry, it's not the facts. FOF2004 will never be "right". There will always be something intristically "wrong" with it and it is very hard to put your finger on it. When these games were first being made .. I saw it. Jim just never "got" it. And there's no way to rewind his life and put him in a Doug Flutie jersey and understand what a rouge is. You can't read it and learn it. The subtelty that of Canadian football has to lived, day in and day out, watching a few games before the team folds in the middle of the season. That subtelty soaks through and that's what you see in "Maximum Football".

Now, why is FOF2004 so much bigger and more active? STATS. Jim focused on something that is not important to the game. Realistic statistics should had been put in the backburner for graphics and customization. But that damn game kept growing. TIMES 50. TIMES 50 again. And don't discount that the review by Druez. He played the press well and was a great "face" for FOF2004. Daivd had...to continue programming past his first promised release date (which was almost done a few years ago). It was just Daivd.

When I was in a position to, I helped both these games with extensive press coverage by telling people at the local YMCA .. and got Smoke to do it to in print .. we both did.

One went NFL.

The other went universal, but more universal with the Canadian game.

.. and I wouldn't buy FOF2004 ON A BET ..

It ain't even close.

And it never will be.

This is not the NFL, it's about customization.

Sorry if that's politically incorrect.

It's just the way it is.

End of storytime.

Have a nice life.

To be clear, I fully endorse this man's message. In fact everything rings true.

- Daivd

Dollars to donuts this man is GW'sFBAStartOct29th2006

*Yawn*

Sounds like someone with an agenda to me. Who cares? I really like FOF2004 and that's all that matters to me. This guy is full of himself isn't he?

This saga is starting to become like Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vadar. Only worse, because it looks like Luke has turned to the dark side and is trying bone Leia.

Shorty was conceived?

Seems so

I don't know what this guy is talking about. If it weren't for me, there would be no NFL. Back in the days when games were played with dice and paper, I invented the professional league structure.

At one time, it changed a lot. But then it reached an ideal size, and so I decided to add complexity to the schedule and keep the league the same size forever. Brilliant, I tell you.

A good friend of mine, Pete Rozelle, had some solid business contacts. So I told him about my dice and paper league, and before I knew it, the NFL was born, just like I had planned.

But was my name on the football? No. Pete's was. And now this guy named Paul Tagliabue, who doesn't mind borrowing from my league (suspensions for tobacco withdrawal syndrome and players getting in trouble for having intercourse on a boat), but he doesn't even return my calls.

And what about Bonnie Bernstein? When I first started calling her, all she cared about was the balance beam and that weird saddle-shaped thingamajiggy that real moms don't let nice girls play with. I taught her everything she knows. And all I ask is that she gets my company logo tatooed on her cheek. Either one. But will she do it? Hell no. Just pretends she doesn't even know me.

You talk about putting me in a Doug Flutie jersey? Hah. I'm the one who taught Dougie how to drop-kick. Bill Belichick tries out his new plays on FOF 2004 before he'll try them in a game. If he sees "your opponent is familiar with that play," it's right back to the drawing board. Three Super Bowls, man. Three. And do I have a ring to show for it?

So take your petty rants and shove them right back in the beer tent where they belong. Adios.

If all parody threads were like this, I would never have had to go on a diatribe against parody threads.

This is the new gold standard. If you can't beat this, it's just masturbation.
