ZoneAlarm warning

I know a number of you have ZoneAlarm installed so just a warning about the latest upgrade - be careful. I've just spent the last 3 hours trying to get communications back to this PC as a result of installing the latest upgrade earlier. In the end I've had to uninstall the program completely to get any communications back.

Anyone else had problems?

I've just been over to the ZoneAlarm user forum (now that I have communications back) and my suggestion becomes a recommendation. ZoneAlarm release 6.5.722 seems to have been a disaster. My 3 hours s minor compared with others who have lost all control of their PCs. Even uninstalling has done nothing for them.

Somebody at work was complaining about it, so I ran a "clean" install instead of an upgrade and it works as well as ZoneAlarm works.

(Does anybody else have the occassional need to shut down ZoneAlarm just to get ot the internet, and then once you get through you can start ZoneAlarm again? That's annoying.)

I had to uninstall it completely as well as my AV to install NFL Head Coach. However, I have always had problems at hotels with it on, and trying to connect to the internet, so I had to disable it.

I am now using sunbelt softwares firewall, and it has been easier to use, and less of a pain then ZoneAlarm

I trust ZoneAlarm, but sometimes I think they try to be a pain in the ass as some sort of way to subconsciously remind users that it's working.

I didn't have any problems initially, but there have been some screwy things going on since I installed it. Never thought about it, but right after I installed it, things went a bit out of whack.

I quit using ZoneAlarm after a similar incident about a year and a half ago. I ran an update that crippled my PC. It turns out the automatic update they gave out to registered users was intended for a different software product. After that farce, and seeing the outrage on their message boards, I decided to go in a different direction.
