What's with that game?
I tried it yesterday and to see how it would do, I tried to create a blockbuster action movie. I do the movie, it costs a ton to produce and I pay a ton for publicity in order to be sure people go see it. It's rated G and it had a 98% review. I tell myself: "Man this is going to be a huge success"! I was wrong, I got 2,31% of the box-office that week...
What did I do wrong?

A few questions:
1. Was this Hollywood Mogul or Hollywood Mogul 2?
2. How good were your above-the-line staff members (producer, director, writer) at action movies?
3. What percentage of your budget was spent on special effects?
4. Were your actors rated well for action movies?
5. In what month did you release the movie?
6. What makes you think that a G-rated blockbuster action movie is going to draw people to the theater?!?

I got excited that perhaps the 3rd version was out. But Pumpy's questions are good ones in helping figure out why your movie bombed.

That was my first thought as well. Who wants to go see a squeaky clean action movie? I want cuss words and boobs when I see an action flick!

Hollywood Mogul was good, and I wish they'd come out with 3 sometime eventually.
I quit playing 2 after my last action movie made $2 billion in revenue.

If not that, at least an exploding head or two...

Same thoughts here.
Always go with PG-13 if it's not a Comedy. You'll earn more money.

Yep, me too. From the looks of the forum, it's coming out this summer. I got a lot of playing time out of HM and will certainly buy the new one as well.

Yeah, definately needed to be rated higher than 'G', PG-13 is the best rating to get (as somebody stated above).
Plus, sometimes movies just flop. It happens.
And I'm definately awaiting HM3. It looks like it will be pretty good if he can ever finish it. Would love to make a new version of "Invasion of the Killer Smurfs", my biggest hit ever on HM2.

1. This was Hollywood Mogul v2.5 so I guess it's 2
2. There is no specific ratings for specific genre is there? I had Peter Jackson as the producer, an average director and a screenplay of *****.
3. I don't know the specific %, but it was a pretty big sum of money. Probably 50M.
4. The main role was Hugh Jackman so I guess he was probably well rated in action movies.
5. I released the movie in May cause I read this is the best month for action movies (summer).
6. Looking back, it was PG13 because of violence.
Still, I thought a 98% movie with tons of money spent on publicity would get more success wouldn't it?

Ditto. Carey posted today that the release is "weeks away," but not months away. The cutoff for being a member of the board to get the sneak preview has already been done. Based on his most recent statements, I'd hazard to guess that the release is 2-6 months away.
Back to the original question, without knowing the full specifics of the budget it's hard to say. A PG-13 action film needs to have a sizable budget include a big special effects/stunt budget. You also may thought your marketing was high, but how much was it? It might not have really been that high.
There's pretty tried and true formula for HM 2 that once you get down works pretty well.

I don't remembe perfectly but I think it was:
TV - 40M
Radio - 20M
Paper - 5M
Or something like that.

Tits may be offensive to the women on this board.

I played lots of HM back in the day. Look forward to a new version, it's a nice diversion.
