Really? I thought the dialog and atmosphere in the 2nd trailer was so far above what I expected from Stallone in 2006, it got me hyped to put a tree on my back and run up a snow covered mountain.

The second one just seemed so cliched. The plot seemed like a clone of the past 2-3 Rocky's, so I was left feeling, "So what?"

Just an opinion.

I could hardly understand a word he said in the first one 'mumblemumblemumblemubmle how much fight you have?'

And the second one seemed very... B-movie.

I WONDER WHO WINS IN THE END? I won't spoil it though, you know, lets let it be a suprise. But who am I kidding? I'll see this movie, no matter how bad a train wreck it might be.

Dude, Stallone is 60 years old... why in the world is he making this movie. (Can't wait until Rambo IV right after it... another great decision on his part).

Young fighter: "It's over"
Rocky: "It's not over 'til it's over"
Young fighter: "Where's that from, the 80's?"
Rocky: "That's probably the 70's"

I'm not sure why this was so funny to me.

I always liked Rocky. Loved 1, 2 and 3... 4 and 5 were recycles of 3. They always make me smile when I leave the theatre. I like watching movies that make me feel good for the rest of the week.

Nice lines on the first trailer... sweet

...what was it you said to the kid?
...the world ain't all sunshine and rainbows...
...it's a very rough mean place...
...and no matter how tough you think you are...
...it always brings you down to your knees and keep you there...
...permanently, if you let it...
...you are nobody, and you're never going to hit as hard as you like...
...but it ain't about how hard you can hit...
...it's about how hard you can get hit...
...and keep moving forward...
...how much you can take and keep... moving... forward...
...if you know what you're worth, go out and get what you're worth...
...but you've got to be willing to take...the...hit...

Rocky I - Rocky loses close fight to Apollo Creed.
Rocky II - Rocky wins rematch of close fight with Apollo Creed.
Rocky III - Rocky loses and wins fight in the same movie.
Rocky IV - Rocky has retired, watches friend die in exhibition against Russian guy and comes out of retirement to win fight.
Rocky V - Rocky has to retire again due to possible brain damage and lives through the life of another fighter. Fighter turns against them. Street fight ensues. Rocky wins street fight.
Rocky VI - I guess he comes out of retirement at 60. If this really is the last film, who knows. He may just die in the last fight. Where the hell is Adrian in this movie? Didn't see her in the trailer.

Rocky 4 isn't necessarily a retread. If anything, 3 is a retread of movies 1 and 2. Rocky 5 just sucked only because of some bad acting and a horrible ending. It should have been the last movie in the Rocky series since everything had come full circle, but even the directing was out there. So I guess that is why he just had to make one more.

Fritz! That is BLANKING unbelievable. Didn't realize it did that well outside of the States. I have to admit that I do admire his writing for all of the films and that he doesn't get enough credit for that alone.

Ditto. I have no interest in watching a 60-year-old man pretend to get his ass kicked for two hours only to come back later and prove all the experts wrong and hang in there with the guy 1/3rd his age at the end.

Rocky was always one of those rare movies where for me the sequels just diminish the original. The end of Rocky didn't reveal who won the fight -- in fact, it didn't matter because the message of the film wasn't about winning or losing it was about fighting the good fight and finding something inside you didn't know you had. Then Rocky II comes along and we find out he lost, but let's face it -- the reason he lost was because it sets up Rocky II.

The first Rocky was a great movie. The sequels were just parodies of the first, each more ridiculous than its predecessor. By the time Tommy Morrison shows up, you're just hoping Rocky gets killed.

And watching Sly go Rambo at age 60 is even less appealing to me. If you're that desperate to cash some checks and "revitalize" the franchises, find a new actor and start from scratch -- Rambo: New Blood is just waiting to be used.

Well, it is a movie... you know, make-believe and all that. Besides, Rocky's supposed to be 60-ish in age as well.

I'm not pissed -- what do I care why Sly Stallone does? I just think he'd been more successful if he decided to make a movie that had broader appeal and didn't quite so vigorously stretch the bounds of plausibility. I'm all for the "willing suspension of disbelief," but if George Foreman waited until he's 60 and wandered into the ring with the heavyweight champion of the world, I doubt he'd even get a license to fight.

Yes it did, you can hear the announcer (not very well, but you can hear him) in the background and right when the movie freezes the scene so it's a still shot of Rocky and Adrian, you hear the announce say "APOLLLOOOO CREEEEEEEDDD!!!" (but with the music blasting the "ADRIAN!!!!!!"s, I can see how people miss it)

Stallone actually is 60 and I'd wager to guess that if he had been a fighter his whole life he'd still be a damn competant one. Say what you want but he's in amazing shape.

I get the vibe that this movie is gonna be much grittier than anything since the first 2 movies.

I remeber seeing Rocky in the theater and I knew when the movie ended, he had lost the fight. It seemed strange at the time to have negative or depressive outcome, but I think Rocky may have been the start of the sequel movie deal. I cannot think of another movie besides Star Wars that may have come first.

I have NO idea why this popped into my head first, but Jaws 2 came out in 1978 - a year before Rocky 2 and two years before Empire Strikes Back.

then, thinking more, Godfather II came out in 1974, well before any of the original movies above were made. and I'm sure there's other's I'm missing. so, no. :)

I don't really view it as a negative or depressing outcome... the point was that he went the distance. It's inspiring regardless of outcome.

From a Stallone interview...

Adrian's dead in Rocky VI. Rocky's got a little restaurant named after her, with pictures of her and stuff, and Stallone said it was pretty hard to tell Talia Shire the news of killing her character off.
