I remember there beining a post on the old forum about this game. I'm just wondering if anyone is still playing it with the patch. They are up to V1.4. From what I remember there were alot of problems with the AI and I was wondering if that was fixed. The game itself is only 20 dollars but I don't want to invest the time or money if the game sucks. Any feedback would be appreciated.

The only thing I would recommend is checking out their board at golemlabs.com. If I remember correctly, there were some fairly unflattering comments on the board. I got the impression the the designers were very open to criticism.

I've heard very bad reviews about it. Unless they somehow patched it into a decent game. One of the complaints is that everything seems random and your actions almost seem to have no affect.

On a similar note, I think, PC Gamer just gave Hearts of Iron a 90% and you may want to look into that instead. I would love to hear what others who have tried it think about it overall.
Highs: Brilliant battle-management tool; has tremendous historical fidelity; extremely deep.
Lows: Almost excessively complex; a few bugs involving the timing of canned events.
Bottom Line: A grand strategy classic, but only for those with the mettle to tackle a huge game.

Chem,
Did you ever try Simcountry?

Simcountry looks intense. Is the gameplay more on the side of casual or overwhelming? Is there a catch to the cash rewards in the form of spyware or mass amounts of spam or anything else along those negative lines? Thanks any input.

No catch that I ever saw...and you definately do better if you pay attention. The game isn't THAT hard, but if you start next to a well established country, you could be in trouble.

Well, after trying Simcountry for a while it just couldn't hold my attention long enough to do anything worthy. Maybe at another time things might be different but for now it is well beyond the back burner.
I really wanted to enjoy SuperPower but was unable to get the demo to last very long without crashing to the desktop. This was an extreme disappointment since the game was starting to grow on me really quickly. I checked out the forum board to see if the demo was based off of the most current version but couldn't decide for certain. What was very clear though was that CTDs seem to be very high among players even with the current patch. Add that to the "Complaints" forum, always did love a separate section to complain about something, and this one won't be getting my money any time soon. Bummer.
I have never been more excited about a game than I was for Superpower.
Worst fucking game ever.

And yet it seems to have such promise that hasent been recognized. It would seem that they still have a chance to turn it into a really good game if they just can get their shit together. I feel really sorry for the mass amounts of customers who can't play because of the CTD problems.

Apparently the SuperPower demo is based on version 1.0 and the claim is that version 1.4 is absolutely better. I still have read several reports on their forum board about CTDs yet I find my self drawn to the game. As long as it is actually playable it might be worth the $20 to check it out.
Does anyone care to point out certain aspect of the most recent version be it positive or negative? I am really interested in hearing what other members have to say about their experiences with this game. STK? Fritz? Anyone?

I just saw something on usenet today saying that the 1.4 patch makes it a much, much better game. I stayed away from it after the crappy reviews, but might pick it up now if I notice it in the bargain bin.

Has anyone else been very excited about the possibilities of Republic? I think it on paper at least sounded amazing, it's gone through a lot of push backs, and some feature cuts, but still sounds to be something that hasn't been tried before. I think it really has the potential to be awesome, or horrible...they might be reaching for too much.
Preview on IGN...

I haven't gotten the latest patch, but this game really sucked when I got it. If I had paid more than five postcards I would have really been pissed.

I've been interested in this for a couple of years now -- unfortunately that preview is from last June and I haven't seen much lately on it.......if they can pull it off it'd be awesome.

There was a new preview up at Gamespot.com a few weeks ago.

I dont have the latest version, but the game after two patches was still completely unappealing.
STK got me pumped up about the game, but I regret buying it . Superpower was a greater waste of money than my attempt to daytrade Enron.

Sorry about the old preview. I just thought of it reading through the post, and grabbed the first preview I ran across. :)
I did however read a recent one, they're cutting quite a bit out of it, I saw they had announced that their would only be one competitor, not the up to 16 originally I think it was. I'll still be anxious to see how it turns out, I have heard more talk about it lately, and it's looking real positive that it will be out around late summer.
Think this is the latest preview on it for those interested.

I guess this is what happens when we go to war, eh?
During the World Cup, everyone wanted to play Championshipp Manager. During the heat of the NFL season, everyone was playing football sims. During baseball season, people fire up OOTP and its ilk.
I guess when war is all over the TV, we itch to play a sim where we get to have our finger on the button.

I didn't realize that SuperPower was all about war since the demo has crashed to the desktop every time that I give it a shot. From what I have read it supposedly has a lot of focus on diplomacy and economics. Sorry if this disappoints you but I was honestly not interested in it for any war aspect that it might have. There are plenty of games on the market today that can satisfy any desires for blowing things up or killing people. I personally never looked at SuperPower in that respect. If you have some information you would like to share on the game I would love to here it since I am considering spending money on it.

At this point I might need to pick up a copy just to see for myself just how bad it could be. Does anyone have a copy with the manual that they would want to trade away?
I'd also be curious if anyone has played it with the latest patch and if it makes a difference.

I've actually had no problems with Super Power after downloading the patch. If you go their forum site, you can download a couple of builds that make the game way more challenging. I think they are up to build six, and it has several different levels. I found my copy at halfprice books for 10.00 and it's been worth it.

If only I'd waited....10.00 might've been worth it.
With all this patch talk, however, it may be time to blow the dust off of my copy and have another go...
