Puzzle Pirates
http://www.puzzlepirates.com/
This is currently one of my favorite free online games. Dodgerchick and I have been playing this game for the past few days and it is amazing. Although this is a game I thought I would get easily bored with, it has been a good challenging mental game.
So here is my short description of the game. You start off the game as a aspiring pirate. You have no job, you start off with your own shack and you enlist in the navy to learn your skills. The skills you learn as just different types of puzzles. As you get better and faster at completing these puzzles, your skill level goes up.
There are a number of things to earn money. You can go to the pub and gamble on Spades, Hearts, Poker, Treasure Drop, Competitive Brawling, SwordFighting. Or if you are not much of a gambler, you can join the navy and work of skills such as Sailing, Bilge Pumping, Carpentry, Gunnery and Navigation
But what makes this game unique is that when it comes to combat, you are competing against another opponent in a puzzle battle. Certain puzzle combinations send attacks to the other opponent which adds a bunch of tiles or balls onto their side. There are two types of battles in this game. Swordfighting (which is a Tetris like game) and Brawling (which is a Match 3 type game).
With the money you earn, you can upgrade your home, buy a ship, upgrade weapons, get new threads, commision a painting, set up your own store, and the most important thing is to get doubloons.
Doubloons are important because they give you access to other parts of the game. What is brilliant about this game is that you can purchase the doubloons with the money you earned online or you can pay with real cash with your credit card. I can see why some people would want to pay for those things because the current exchange rate is 728 pieces of eight for 1 doubloon.
There is so much more to say about the community in this game, but you have to check it out. I was supposed to keep this short, but I rambled on as usual.
