So I'm playing in Partypoker's shootout tournament. I finished 3rd in the 1st round to make $6 and advance. In the 2nd round, I'm shortstacked the whole time but then get a good run of cards and move into 3rd with 5 players left. Then I bust a guy, making me 2nd with 4 players left, one of whom is seriously shortstacked. I then see a message, "This table is being closed." I call Party support and they tell me that the tourney has been closed and my money will be refunded.

Well, this absolutely sucks. I've been having a terrible run lately, and finally was in a spot where I would have gone to round 3 with a pretty big stack. I could have made alot of money on this tourney. Support tells me I'll get a refund (as if this is some kind of benefit, "we WILL refund your money"), but after I complain enough they offer to add $10 to my account. I'm still pissed, though.

That sucks man. Party's support is certainly one of the worst, but the level of competition there really makes it hard to play elsewhere.

I haven't played Party in months. I know a lot of people have success reeling in the fish there, I found the structure of party way too conducive to poor play -- the 10 hands per round, the low starting chips, etc. You just end up leaving too much to luck. I got tired of playing a few orbits in a tourney and ending up out of the tournament because I never saw anything better than JTo. I'd probably feel different if I played more ring games.

I've been online before when the network has crashed and tournaments were cancelled, but I've never seen a message like what you got. Was there a network issue or was the table closed for a specific reason?

They said it was a network issue, but at the time there was no message telling us the tourney was cancelled. I had to call to find that out.

As for the structure of the STT's, they've increased starting chips to 3000, which has helped a bit. However, the Shootout tourney is poorly structured. In the 2nd round, the blinds started at 600/1200 and the chip leader at my table started off with 19000, everyone else had 13000 or less.

Yeah for what it is worth the structure of the tournaments is better now. You start with 2000 chips and it is 10 minute rounds not 10 hand rounds anymore. Although the blinds start at 20/40 as opposed to 10/20 at Stars and they have a couple of bigger jumps in the levels than Stars does. So the tournies still play fastr than they do at Stars despite the 500 more in chips.

I have boycotted Party since Jan of this year. The software sucks it is a huge memory hog and one of the updates if you uninstalled it would uninstall al the image files you had on the root drive go figure. Plus I dont care much for them begging me to place side bets and play BJ on every single damn table. (I generally play 6-8 tables at a time)

The customer service is the worst. They dont even read your emails they just pick out some keywords and send automated responses back. You literally have to email them 3 times just to get someone to actually read what you wrote. As soon as they cut off rakeback it simply wasnt worth it to put up with the hassle anymore.

And as far as the games being the fishiest I do not think that is nearly as true anymore. Especially if you play NL games they are fishy everywhere. And from what I hear limit is drying up on Party also lately but I dont even have that piece of shit software on my computer anymore :)
