It has been over 100 for over a week straight here (suburb 50 miles east of SF) but today is just absurd - it is currently 111 degrees.

last night when I went to bed at 11pm it was still over 90 and when I took my kids to soccer this morning at 9am it was already over 95.

Not really, appears to be more of a cyclical hot summer scenario thats been seen before and will likely be seen again.

Here in Buffalo last summer it was 90 degrees for more days than its been in teh history of the region (or at least as long as they kept measurements) but this year its been cool.

These are the things that happen in life that you get to tell as stories to your grandchildren. Stop worrying about the heat, enjoy and take solace that you'll have stuff to talk about when you get old and decrepit.

About that hot in Placerville today... where are you at, Augustus?

Agreed... we need a break in this heat. Power was out here last night from about 8:00 pm until after 3:00 am. It made for a rotten evening.

Maybe you should head to the bay area... it's about 86 there today, I read.

Big deal.

It cooled down today to 102. Tomorrow and for the rest of the week, we are looking at around 109-112.

Thank God we are moving to someplace cooler..........

I noticed your location will be Austin, gratz on the move!! Mind if I ask what's leading you here?

As far as Austin being cooler than Vegas... not too sure about that. It's a different kind of heat. The air here is heavy and it kinda reminds me of spending summers at the beach in Southern California. Not sure if you know this, but Antmeister and myself spent 3 LOOOOOOONG years in Phoenix and I hated every single summer. It was nasty and dry, I didn't like it.

I much prefer 100 here than 115+ in Phoenix.

Oh and we've been here for almost 3 months, so not too sure what the weather is like year round.

after looking at the forecast, it'll be between 91-98 here for the next 10 days with possible showers for 4 of those days.

Cyclical hot summer scenario huh? I sure hope so but considering all things equal we better start to adapt to extremes in temperature soon as a species.

That is why I keep scratching my head to all these chicken little's running around claiming this is a sign of our empending doom. If you look at these records that are being broke, most of them are from 100 years ago.

In 1916 how many leaking Air Conditioneers were there?
In 1908 did we have that big of problem with Aerosol cans?
And, I guess those 1898 trafic jams were a real pain in the but with hundreds of cars on the road.:)

But it's completely illogical to go from that point to "global warming doesn't exist",

worst part of the heat for me is we were in football camp all week and I was standing in the direct sun for 4 hours on the turf every day - of course the players had it worse with full pads on.

It does a little bit more when two individual places at the same time, but 9 hours in time zones away are breaking the same kind of records.

I told Arlie he has two years. Two years to get me the hell out of this state, or buy me a vacation home somewhere cooler. Otherwise Baby Rahn and I are leaving and he can roast out here all by himself.

I tend to get a tad bitchy when I burn my hand on my seatbelt/steering wheel/everything.

Yup, agreed. I hated burning my hand on the handle of the car, then again on the steering wheel, and again on the stick shift. We couldn't even feel the air conditioner at times. I'm glad one of those summers I worked graveyard shift so I could avoid the nasty heat.

TDCB was released on/around our first wedding anniversary and Christmas. Needless to say with that release, I didn't see much of him for our anniversary or that holiday season.

One Valentines Day 2002, I fell asleep in the sexy gift he gave me, waiting for him to finish tech support on TDCB. I waited for two hours.

In the crunch to get TPF out the door in 2003 he completely forgot my birthday. To the point where I got a blank stare when he couldn't figure out why I was pissed.

During the summer of 2005 getting everything ready for our first baby was left to me. Every spare moment he had was devoted to testing. I was 8 months pregnant and assembling the nursery furniture myself.

In September of 2005, he worked on BBCF during the day while I was still in the hospital recovering from my C-Section. I think he even brought his laptop to the hospital.

It's very difficult to pull him away when he gets into these things. He's focused on a game and nothing else, so I've had to set some rules. I don't end up a bitter old married woman resenting my husband for loving his computer more than his family. He is not allowed to work on a game on vacation, or he doesn't get to go with us. :)

Dola - I'm proud at how dedicated he is to his dream. Forgetting my birthday or ignoring me on Valentine's Day isn't a big deal to me anymore. But now that we have a child, who won't understand why Daddy works so much, it's important that we have rules like that.

One thing to note about high temperatures in Western Washington is that, unlike, oh, everywhere else in the country, AC is not something that is standard in most homes here. Since our temperatures normally top out in the high 80's in the summer with the rare climb into the low 90's, the vast majority of homes and condos here don't have AC. So, when it gets up into the high 90's, there's no relief at home.

Excellent point. I'm going to have to figure out some sort of similar limits for the two of us. Without some limits, we might spend more time working on speech and debate (tournaments, coaching, worrying, working with leadership) than actual married stuff. I like the way you think.

It was a necessity. His game work is run out of our home, and when I was still working with him on .400 we had a difficult time leaving work at work. It seemed like we were always working or talking about work. I remember once we even talked about game stuff while we were lying in bed trying to fall asleep. It was starting to wear on us. So we set some guidelines - like when we would shut the doors to our offices, we were done with work for the day. It's been great since.

Sorry for perpetuating the threadjack...

I own my own business and work from home - that is a constant battle. I love the flexibility to coach my kids sports and go on field trips and stuff - but it is hard to ever truly feel like I am "off" of work.
