I have to survey a bunch of servers and record which ones are connected via GigaBit copper (as far as I know, we have no gigabit fibre).
Is there a handy utility that can remotely detect what link speed a network card is running at?

It depends on the hardware. Most switch vendors have software which will give you this info. As will most network monitoring software like Unicenter, OpenView, Tivoli, etc. Is any of that available to you?

Nope. I'm giving the resource kit linkspeed utility a try... I'm not network ops guy... I have server admin rights, but that's about it.
