So for months on end now I've had problems getting certain select sites to work on my PC. At first I thought it was just netflix.com, but recently after seeing something online I wanted to buy I tried paypal.com. No dice either. I've yet to stumble upon any other major sites that won't work on my PC, but I'm sure it isn't a case of the sites being down. Netflix hasn't worked in months, and I've never logged on to paypal, but for about 3-4 days it has been no dice for me. I've tried these sites in both firefox and IE.

For some reason neither of these sites will work on my PC, and I'm sure there are others out there that I've yet to stumble upon. Any ideas on how to get these up and running again?

on my self diagnosis, I would ask could something be going screwy with my host files? And if so, is there anyway I can download a new set of host files to override the ones that could be screwy. Is there any chance they could be to blame?

OK, fixed it. My host files theory was correct. I opened my host files and there was a list of atleast 200+ websites in there. I scanned down, saw paypal listed. I then tried two other of the sites, neither of them worked. Found netflix, deleted that and paypal and now they both work. Weird.

Why the heck would your host files be modified like that?

You probably have other spyware and malware. This problem is more than likely going to reappear after a reboot. You should run through the list of recommended spyware utilities to root out the bad stuff on your system. Here's a list to get you started:

Windows Defender
Spybot Search and Destroy
Ad-Aware

Good hosts files that block a lot of unwanted stuff can be found here: http://www.everythingisnt.com/hosts.html

Interestingly enough those are the only 3 I use;)

I will most likely be reading up on this issue some more.
