Qualls is the only SDSU player taken in the draft. I think he's the 2nd (Phillips being the first)...someone can correct me if I'm mistaken.
We get 10 job offers, all of them at lower prestige schools, and all of them find their way into the deleted bin.
I decide to redshirt (C) Ferron Cooper. He has some skill, and is maxed out on potential, but isn't going to find any playing time behind Porter and Brown this year.
Our freshman class is listed as Poor, and our Composite talent level is Below Average. Our A.D expectations are for a .500 Conference Record.
We make no staff changes for the year, and have over $17k available per week. We will use the 4* scouting service National Prep this year.

We get a fairly decent schedule. But we have an amazing off season in terms of development (for the starters anyway), so I make one small change and add one more top school to our schedule.
SDSU Non-Conference Schedule
#15 Duke
Akron
@ Miami of Ohio
@ Tenessee
DePaul
@ Florida State
Drake
Harvard
Portland
Hawaii
Wisonsin
Butler
Portland State
San Francisco
@#16 Alabama
Now that I write it down, it looks a lot tougher than when I was just looking at it. Oh well...
Next up...the starters.

02-06-2003, 09:50 PM
C - Luke Porter Senior 51 games, 5.5 ppg
Porter is talented. Maxed out shooting, free throw, passing, handling, rebounding, post d, shot blocking, and strength!!!
PF - Kerry Washington Sophomore 29 games, 3.8 ppg
Another solid player. Maxed out awareness, shooting, free throw, passing, off rebounding, post d, endurance. Will likely declare for the draft, though.
SF - Mario Roland Sophomore 27 games, 1.5 ppg
Best all around player on the team. Not spectacular in any area, but well above average in every area.
SG - Stevan Blair Junior 58 games, 5.4 ppg
Solid offensive player, but weak defending and low endurance are problems.
PG - Maynard Allen Sophomore 29 games, 6.0 ppg
Slightly above average player, poor athlete however.
Bench:
G- Jamarcus Williams (Sr)
C - Damon Brown (So)
G - Dexter Edwards (Fr)
We're in trouble if we have to go to the bench to deeply. Brown is talented enough to start, and will see a lot of time. Williams has seen 4.8 MPG in his career, which tells you how good he is, and Edwards is a work in progress, that won't be finished this year for sure. The rest of the bench sucks, and they better hit the books hard cause they won't be seeing much time on the court this year.

Game 1: #3 Duke @ SDSU
Duke jumps to #3 in the polls after winning the preseason tourney. We close a 15 point gap at the break to make the game interesting, but simply run out of steam, and Duke prevails 76-64 Washington got 24 and 8 against a tough Duke D.
Game 2: Akron @ SDSU (0-1)
Akron is more on our level of play, and we close a 10 point gap to trail by 3 with 5 mins remaining, but poor shooting down the stretch leads us to a 80-68 loss. Blair led with 19.
Game 3: SDSU (0-2) @ Miami of Ohio
Down 13 at the break, we never get any closer and lose 77-61 shooting a horrible 32.5% for the game.
0-3 and off to our typical SDSU start...

Game 4: SDSU (0-3) at #15 Tennessee
We only trail by one at the break, 43-42. And then get killed in the 2nd half as the Vol's win 89-61. Once again another 30.9% night, but understandable against a tough D. Blair lead all scorers with 20.
Game 5: DePaul @ SDSU (0-4)
We come alive in overtime to take the 86-75 win. Roland had 22 and 10, Porter had 20 and 11, and Allen had 18 with 8 assists.
Game 6 SDSU (1-4) @ Florida State
We fight our way back from a deficit at the break, to take a lead with time running out, and hold on for the 75-68 win. All the starters had double digits, with Blair leading the way with 15.
Our first 2 recruits commit.
Michael Jones PG 4* #58 Overall
Bernard Jenkins PG 4* #80 Overall

Game 7: Drake @ SDSU (2-4)
We build up a 49-38 lead at the break thanks to Blair's 20 1st half points. We finish with a 85-70 win. Blair led all scorers with 22.
Game 8: Harvard @ SDSU (3-4)
We work up a 10 point lead by the break and never look back to go to win 86-61. Harvad promptly sues us after the game. All starters hit double digits, while Blair once again led the way with 22.
Game 9: Portland @ SDSU (4-4)
We blow a 12 point half time lead only to come alive in the final 2 mins, retake the lead, and win 78-71. Great games by Blair (22 again) and Washington (20 and 12 boards).
5 straight wins after 4 straight losses...looks like it's going to be one of those years. :)

Surprisingly Washington doesn't declare early. He looks like NBA material to me, but then what do I know. I'm glad he's staying though.
On a completely unrelated note: I got a new computer. 2.4ghz P4 baby! Man TDCB soars. I was running a P2 450 before. Needless to say, I'm happy with it :D
Game 10: Hawaii @ SDSU (5-4)
We start out with a 24-4 run, but let the Warriors back into the game and only hold a 9 point lead at the half. But that's enough as we continue to play well into the 2nd half and walk away with a 81-70 win. Washington led with 16 while Blair and Roland each had 15 points.
Game 11: Wisconsin @ SDSU (6-4)
We get into some early foul trouble, and the Badgers take advantage, and we throw away a game we could have won losing 76-65.
Game 12: Butler @ SDSU (6-5)
The play goes back and forth, but we hold a 8 point lead with 2 and half mins left in the game. We catch some breaks from the refs added to some solid free throw shooting, and win 72-64. Washington had 19, while Porter grabbed 12 and 13 boards. We lose Allen to injury however.

Allen is gone for 2-3 months with severe depression. He's a nut case and his season is mostly over. The senior Jamarcus Williams will see his first regular starting action in his career. One more lineup change is too move Roland and Washington around, to get Washington more involved in the offence.
We enter conference play. We're listed with a higher composite talent level over Air Force, Wyomming, and BYU. The other teams are all better than us.
Game 13: Air Force @ SDSU (7-5)
Air Force come out strong, but fall apart when we go to a 3-2 zone. After that they never get closer then 10 back, and we win easily 86-64. Roland, Blair and Ty Williams (filling in for foul trouble Jamarcus Williams) each grabbed 16 pionts.
Game 14: Colorado State @ SDSU (8-5)
CSU is 12-1 so far this year. We build up a nice lead and hold a 34-29 advantage at the break. We lose Porter with an injury though, and CSU are able to fight back and take the 90-76 win in OT from us. Washington led the way with 17.
Here come the injuries. Porter is gone for 3-4 weeks with a torn abdominal muscle. just in time to miss the conference schedule. :(
Game 15: SDSU (8-6, 1-1) @ New Mexico
Brown will start in place of Porter. That's a big hole to fill though. Without Porter we're dreadful though, and we shoot 27.3% on the night. We make things interesting, but New Mexico grab the 70-56 win.
klayman
02-07-2003, 01:45 AM
Game 16: SDSU (8-7, 1-2) @ Wyoming
What should be an easy game for us, turns into a nightmare as we shoot horrible and turn the ball over constantly. Thankfully, the Cowboys are a bad team, and we rally at the end to come away with a 73-67 win. Roland led the team with 22 and 9 boards.
We welcome our final two recruits.
Jerome Robinson SF 3* NR
Tim Grant PF 4* #68 Overall. Grant is a Junior College recruit.
Game 17: BYU @ SDSU (9-7, 2-2)
A very slow first half, but we come out of our shell in the 2nd and easily handle BYU 73-60. Blair led all scorers with 18, while Edwards came off the bench for 17 points.
Game 18: Utah @ SDSU (10-7, 3-2)
We shoot 32% in the first half, and I be damned if there is anything I can't do about it. Luckily we only trail by 3 points at the break. We play no better in the 2nd half, but thankfully the Utes play worse, and we hold a slight lead towards the end of the game, and seal with the free throws for a nice 66-57 upset. Blair led the way with 16 and 9 boards, while Washington grabbed 14 and 8.
Utah's first loss in conference play. :)

02-07-2003, 01:56 AM
We welcome Luke Porter back to starting lineup as we head into our conference break.
MWC Standings
Colorado State 4-2 (15-3)
SDSU 4-2 (11-7)
Utah 4-2 (11-7)
New Mexico 4-2 (10-8)
UNLV 3-3 (7-11)
Wyoming 3-4 (9-10)
BYU 2-4 (8-10)
Air Force 1-6 (4-15)
Looks good so far, but we know that it's usually the 7th or 8th seed that advance to the NCT. :)

Game 19: Portland State @ SDSU (11-7)
Yes. With Porter back in the fold, we're back to our pre injury team, and easily walk over PSU 81-63. Blair hit 26, Washington 15, while Porter grabbed 5 points and 15 boards.
Quite a day for the MWC as only UNLV and New Mexico lose their non-conference games. Our CRI is 56th with a schedule rank of 80 right now.
Game 20: SDSU (12-7, 4-2) @ Utah
The Utes looking for revenge in the rematch, but Porter adds a completely different atmosphere to this team with his talent and leadership. We hit 77.3% from the field in the 1st half. We hold a slim 4 point lead with :26 seconds left in the game. Utah with the miss, Roland with the board, and 1 of 2 from the line...and we sail to a 73-68 win. Roland was on fire with 31 in the game.
Game 21: SDSU (13-7, 5-2) @ BYU
We walk over BYU in the first half 35-16. With the outcome never in doubt, we relax in the 2nd half for a 67-51 win. Blair scored 18 while Washington grabbed 13 and 9 boards.
The standings as we leave January
Colorado State 6-2 (18-3)
SDSU 6-2 (14-7)
New Mexico 5-3 (11-10)
UNLV 5-3 (9-12)

We finally make the bubble watch. Our 0-4 record against top 50 teams must be killing us in the polls. If we continue to play well though, we should get a bid even without a tourney champ.
Game 22: SDSU (14-7, 6-2) @ Air Force
This shouldn't be a contest, and Porter's 10 point and 10 1st half rebounds give us a 31-22 lead at the break. However, we completely fall asleep in the 2nd half, and let them back in to the game. We also lose Roland to injury making matters worse. We thankfully hold on for the tight 57-53 win though. Blair finishes with 20, while Porter grabs 14 and 16.
Roland is out day to day with migraines.
Game 23: SDSU (15-7, 7-2) @ #22 Colorado State
Edwards fills in for Roland in our biggest game of the year so far. We're deadlocked with CSU for 1st in the MWC. Who ever wins this game could very well take the MWC Title. We respond to the moment, and lead 42-37 at the half. With 3 mins left, Blair ties the game at 67 all. CSU called for the walk, Porter gets fouled...hits both shots for a 69-67 lead, 2:28 left. Another turnover by CSU, but they quickly steal the ball back. They can't set up the shot however, and Edwards makes a huge steal with 1:56 remaining...Washiington grabs the rebound off a missed free and we're up 71-67.
1:39 remaining...CSU nab both shots of a foul and it's 71-69 SDSU. Ty Williams takes an ill advised shot from downtown, that doesn't fall...CSU ball 1:11 left. We need a huge stop!!! And get it as the ref blows travelling! :39 seconds remaining...Ty Williams draws the foul in the act of shooting...AND sinks both!!! 73-69 SDSU. CSU desperate now...quickly down the court, easy two...NO BLOCKED! by Porter! :17 seconds and Porter goes to the line. Aargh!!! He misses both...CSU still with a slim chance. The three....only iron. They grab the rebound and put home the two, but time runs out...SDSU 73 @ CSU 71. Huge Upset. Edwards lead all scorers with 21, filling in nicely for Roland.

Our win knocks CSU out of the top 25. It's our first win against a top ranked opponent, and does wonders for our bubble watch. :)
We get Roland back, but Dexter Edwards is playing so well, that he'll continue to start, replacing Jamarcus Williams at PG.
Game 24: UNLV @ SDSU (16-7, 8-2)
We come out still pumped from the CSU upset, and hit our first 6 shots, and never look back. We win going away 77-53. Blair lead all scorers with 23, while Wahington grabbed 12 and 12, and Porter with 8 and 11. Dexter Edwards finished his first start at PG with 11 and 10 assists.
CSU keep the pressure by winning. It's a two horse race now, with 3 conf games to go.
MWC Standings
SDSU 9-2 (17-7)
CSU 8-3 (20-4)
New Mex 6-5 (12-12)
UNLV 6-5 (10-14)

Game 25: New Mexico @ SDSU (17-7, 9-2)
A crazy 1st half as both teams go back and forth. That carries into the 2nd, but foul trouble and some very poor shooting down the stretch, sees our winning streak come to a sad end, 67-60 New Mexico. Roland had 22 in the losing cause, while Blair also chipped in with 17.
CSU win, and retake the top position. We have to hope for a loss.
Game 26: Wyoming @ SDSU (17-8, 9-3)
We get it as CSU get upset by BYU. Our fate is back in our hands!!! We blow an 11 point lead twice, just to make things interesting, but squeak out the 67-64 win thanks to Rolands 23 points and 11 boards.
Game 27: SDSU (18-8, 10-3) @ UNLV
BYU upsets CSU again, giving us the MWC Title and a 1st seed in the Tourney!!! Unless things drastically fall apart, I'd say we have a pretty good chance of being in the dance, regardless of the tournament outcome. Meanwhile, in the game, we take the lead off our first possession, and hold it the entire way for a comfortable 66-52 win. Roland finishes with 15, while Edwards grabs 14 and 5 asts.
Final MWC Standings
SDSU 11-3 (19-8)
CSU 9-5 (21-6)
UNLV 8-6 (12-15)
Utah 7-7 (15-12)
BYU 7-7 (14-13)
New Mex 7-7 (13-14)
Wyoming 5-9 (12-15)

Game 28: San Francisco @ SDSU (19-8)
Now we don't want things to fall apart here, but disaster as Blair gets an injury with 1:18 left in a 65-65 tie. J Williams only hits one of the fouls off the injury, to give us a 66-65 lead. The Dons make their basket and then bury us at the line for the 70-66 loss. Blair lead all Aztecs with 16 points.
Thankfully, it was only a knock to the head, and Blair is out day to day with migraines...phew! I was worried.
Game 29: SDSU (19-9) @ #11 Alabama
Yeah, booking this game comes back to bite me in the ass, as I'm looking for our 20th to edge us into the NCT. Luckily the 'Tide are taking us a bit lightly and we work a 35-30 half time lead. Maybe we can finally play with the big boys? With 2:55 left, Roland ties the game at 54. Bama's shot is blocked by Ty Williams, but we get only iron on the shot...2:16 left...Bama take the lead off a 16 footer. 56-54 Alabama...1:53 left, time out SD. Jarmarcus Williams with the 3!!! 57-56 SD. Oh man! Huge steal by Washington!!! Porter grabs the deuce, 59-56 SD, 1:12 left!!!
Bama miss the open jumper, SD ball. :53 seconds. Burn the clock, baby!!! AARRGH! Roland misses the easy shot...:43 seconds, Bama ball...need a stop. AND WE GET IT!!! Bama loose the ball out of bounds. :39 seconds, SD ball. Porter draws the foul...SINKS 2, 61-56 SD...it's all over but the crying. Final score 61-59. Huge upset for SDSU! Team effort with Blair out of the lineup. J Williams grabbed 14 to lead the Aztecs, while Washington got 11 and 8.
Next up regular season stats and MWC Tourney!

Dexter Edwards wins MWC Freshman of the Year! :)
He and Alex Day make the All Freshman team of the year as well.
Game 30: #1 SDSU vs #8 Air Force
For some reason we decide to make this game interesting. Tied at 26 at the break, we own only a 3 point lead with under 1 min remaining until we score big at the line and win 60-52. I was really expecting some more effort out of our players. Roland and Blair had 17 and 16 respectively, and everybody else had an off night.
No upsets this year
#2 CSU over #7 Wyoming
#3 UNLV over #6 New Mexico
#4 Utah over #5 BYU
Game 31: #1 SDSU vs #4 Utah
A strange first half, as we're hot, work up an 11 point lead, blow it, and then gain a 13 point lead by the break, 43-30. We easily blow that in the 2nd half, twice, and find ourselves with a 70-68 lead until Blair hits a quick jumper to put the game away in dying seconds, and we advance with a 72-68 win. Blair finsihes with 22 and Roland with 16.
Last year was 7 and 8th, this year it's 1 and 2
#2 CSU over #3 UNLV
Game 32: #1 SDSU vs #2 CSU
I'm pretty sure both teams are going to the NCT, but you can never be too safe. CSU is looking for revenge from our last meeting. We shoot 30.4% from the floor in the 1st half, but thanks to a 12-13 from the line we enter the break tied at 27. Things don't get any better. We finish the game shooting 32.6%, 3 players foul out, and CSU wins the tourney 62-54. Joke of a game, no ryhme or reason why all of sudden during the tournament we can't hit a basket.

Utah makes the ACT, while CSU grabs the 9th seed in the West, and we get the 11th seed in the West in NCT.
Our second trip to the dance, we'll face Stanford in the opening round.
Game #33: SDSU (22-10, 13-4) vs #23 Stanford (19-14)
We start the game on an 11-4 run, but Stanford fight back and regain the lead half way through the first half. It's back and forth from there with the lead changing often. We catch some breaks toward the end of the half, and eek out a 1 point 37-36 advantage at the break. Roland leads the way with 10 first half points. Stanford have turned the ball over 11 to our 3 in the first half, the only reason were still in the game.
We come out flat in the second. How flat? Computer cheating flat, as we can't hit anything while Stanford go on a 11-0 run... but we fight back and tie with 9 mins left in the game at 51 apiece.
2:01 left in the game. 61-57 Stanford. Blair goes to the line for 2...makes the first, misses the second. Washington grabs the rebound...BLOWS the easy shot. Stanford hit a 3...and it's over, just like that. Roland brings us within 4 with 1:17 left, when Allen goes down with another injury. Stanford hit one of 2, 65-60 Stanford. Roland again bringing us within 3, :59 seconds left...Double dribble on Stanford, SD Ball. :47 seconds left...and Blair throws it away! Porter fouls out, and Stanford hit 1 of 2. Brown goes to the line with :13 seconds left...misses the first one, hits the second. Loser. 66-63 Stanford...we need the ball back. They miss both frees...but grab the rebound and don't miss that. End of game, 68-63 Stanford.
Roland finishes the game with 20. Blair grabbed 13.
Utah advances past Texas A&M in the ACT but lose to Oregon State in the 2nd round, while CSU are first round losers as well, dropping their game to Memphis.
So 3 MWC teams in, 3 now quickly out.
Providence beats Oregon State for the ACT title.
Your Final Four:
Duke 71 vs Michigan State 56
Iowa 67 vs Texas Tech 84
NCT Championship:
Duke
MVP: Bart Adams

Sorry for playing the whole thing through so quickly, not giving you guys anytime to contribute, but I have a couple of assignments due next week, and if I didn't finish the season tonight, it would have taken a long time to get to it.
I've got no place to host the file, so whoever's next or can host it, give me a shout.
