I have been having a problem recently with my machine and seeing as though I just got back from my honeymoon (hooray!) I haven't really been able to work on it. Now that I am back...I am still baffled as to what the hell the problem could be. I will try and explain this as best as possible and hopefully someone can come up with a good solution, heh...
The mobo I am using is an A-Bit NI8-SLI GR. It is a good board, but recently, I will be surfing the web or playing WoW (it actually happens the most when I first start WoW OR when I turn on the printer) and suddenly my screen will go black. The monitor will still be on but the PC will freeze and go dark (like there is no signal from the video cable) I know the PC is freezing because it stopped a print job in mid-job once. I will shut the machine off and turn it back on and I will get an error that says "CMOS Checksum Error - Defaults Loaded" This resets all my CMOS settings, including my system clock, and then Windows will load up.
This was a pain but okay to deal with. Well, now it will happen all the time and occassionally just freeze right at the Windows load screen. I did a little research on the error itself and most people said to change the CMOS battery (granted, this mobo is only 5 months old so that shouldn't be the issue) Regardless, I did that and still the same deal happened.
I ran a chkdsk from the Windows CD and did find some errors, but apparently was able to fix them. A guy I work with says it sounds like it might be a hardware issue...but could it be a faulty Windows install? It sounds really funky to me, but I don't know which to try first: a fresh Windows install, or just send the board back and hope that solves it.
Thanks in advance for any help :)
