New York, USA (Aug 3, 2006) – Paradox Interactive announced today the launch date for their expansion to “Victoria – An Empire Under the Sun”. Launching exclusively on Gamersgate.com, “Victoria – Revolutions” will be available on August 17 for $9.99/€9.99.

“We have received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback since we announced this expansion, said Susana Meza, Marketing and PR Director of Paradox Interactive. “We were expecting such a reaction from our 58,000 + strong member community but were surprised to hear from so many gamers who had been introduced to the strategy genre through games like Victoria.”

New features of “Victoria – Revolutions” include:

* 15 extra years of game play – Lead your nation through the challenging interwar period!
* An expanded tech tree to cover the interwar period, including aircrafts and carriers.
* A DOOMSDAY converter which allows players to continue their game in “Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday”.
* A revamped election and politic system, adding a new level of realism to the game.
* An overhauled military system, which will be linked with the player’s policy decisions.
* A new economic system that brings more realism through various economic models.

So, I guess this means theoretically, you can now start in Crusader Kings (or at least EU2) and play all the way through World War II by use of converters? I can see it now. The "United States of Mexico" and the UK (ruled from Edinburgh) and the Empire of the Golden Horde take on the Fifth Reich of Adolf Hitler, ruling the latest incarnation of the Holy Roman Empire from Prague and is busy with putting down rebellions in the former People's Republic of Burgundy.

Yeah, I could only imagine the horrors of converting all the way from eu2 to hoi doomsday. From the screens I have seen, it as least seems so far that the victoria to hoi2:doomsday converter might not be half bad. I just wonder what happens if Germany is a democracy, brazil is world power etc...the events are going to be goofy.

In complete honesty, I would love for stuff like that to happen.

Yeah, but as noted by others, it's a bitch on the event handling.

On a side note, I know there's a tabletop wargame out there (Totaler Krieg) that allows players to set up what they call a "Wacky War" scenario where the entire setup for World War II is determined by dice rolls representing everything that happens from World War I onwards. Things like independent Ukraine and democratic Germany and a host of other oddball things are possible, as I recall.

Anyone pick this up yet and have an opinions?

I'm really loving the expansion. It adds the ability to split POPs that are over 40k and also has capitalists build rails and factories without government spending. The effects of government policies are much more dramatic now and you have to be careful with event decisions.

I can go into more detail, but you can probably find all the info you want on the Paradox boards. Suffice it to say that its a big improvement for Vicky and well worth ten bucks.

Also, the first patch, fixed some minor problems with the game engine of Revolutions. And, the next patch, probably a few months off, should fix most of the database problems that have been reported.

If you already own Victoria, I think the expansion is definitly worth the $10 upgrade cost.

How did they revamp the politics and elections?

The policies of the individual political parties are much more important now. For example, a laissez faire or interventioist government allows capitalists to build factories, but the player is not able to build factories. A party with anti-military makes it impossible for a player to convert POPs to soldiers while a jingoist party makes it impossible to demobilize.

There is also a militancy penalty to every POP that backs a losing party in an election. If you are pushing militancy a close election can start a wide revolt. They toned this down some in the first patch, but its still something to consider.

All of the political changes make ruling parties much more important. You really need to look at the possibilities in events because changing attitudes about issues could cost your favorite party an election.
