I havent really downloaded much music the last few years and wanted to know what is the best site/service to use. Some like Napster charge per song and a few charge a flat monthly rate which would appear to be a better deal, but I am not sure those who charge by the month have a wide selection. Any suggestions?

Much more suitable for "indie" music, but i can support emusic.com. At the very least you can try it out by signing up for the 25 free downloads (it used to be 50), and judge for yourself. Or if you just go to their website and click the login link, you can then just browse around the site and see what they've got to offer.

Use Rhapsody and buy tunebite.

I have been using the built in to WMP11 - URGE - which is the MTV backed site - which is odd, since I haven't watched MTV since about 1992. But they do have a large catalog and carry all the new music I care about (mostly country) and I already own all the old music I care about.

works extremely well for me.

Since cthomer5000 mentioned "indie music", you can find some really good music from these sites:

http://weedshare.com/
http://www.magnatune.com/

What's cool about magnatune is that you can listen to the entire album before purchasing it. It's like shareware music. You can purchase a whole album for as low as $5, but they suggest $8.
