There's speculation that "Weird" Tim Jankovich may be named UTEP's new head coach as early as tomorrow. What can you tell me about this guy, aside from the fact that he's a Bill Self guy and will probably abandon us as soon as a school from a BCS conference comes calling?

Sorry, I got nothing. I really don't know much about the assistant coaches from our program.
Tho you do have my condolances for getting completely hosed by a coach who goes to Nebraska (!?!) this late in the "coaching roulette" season. :(

What happened to Nolan?

Jankovich has been one of Self's top assistants for a while now. He's a sharp guy and quality recruiter. I believe it will be a good hire for UTEP. He was the head coach at North Texas for a time, but a few North Texas fans have said he was given the short end of a really short stick. And thus far the Bill Self coaching tree has produced some quality coaches in Norm Roberts (St. Joseph) and Billy Gillespie (Texas A&M).

I'm fairly certain JeeberD doesn't need a reminder about Billy Gillespie. ;)

Did anybody ever figure out what happened at North Texas? He walked away from a long-term contract and quit to end up a juco. Something happened there, but whether it was his fault or the university's fault I don't know.
He's a great recruiter, so I'd be been glad to see him leave KU. My impression is that he's a top-notch coach, but the North Texas episode suggests there is something wrong there. I don't think he's the type to jilt UTEP for a better gig, but he might be type who can't handle being The Guy.
Jeebs, if you ever run into your athletic director, can you punch him in the nuts for me and every other Missouri Tigers fan on the planet?

Why? Because he can't count to five? :)

I wouldn't expect him to count five downs since he could never count to five wins.

Erm...nevermind. We hired Memphis assistant Tony Barbee instead.
Sooo...GE...what's the scoop?

Heh, he's a big fella...I don't know if I wanna mess with him. ;)
GE was asking about Nolan. Stull gave him a courtesy interview, but he wanted someone younger (or possibly someone he would have more control over). A great many people wanted him in El Paso, and it seems that he was interested in the job, but he would have had to take a pay cut to do it.

Tony is an excellent recruiter. He has made in road with some of the best recruits in the country. I do not except them to all to go UTEP, but they could pick up a couple of Top 150 players that Memphis does not have scholarships for.
He is not a great X's and O's type guy and he lacks experience. It will be interesting to see how he does, but he learned from one of the best.

There is also a rumor that a (former) Tiger will be transferring to UTEP.
Stay tuned.

Jeebs, what's happening my friend (you too GE).
Just wondering, how serious do you believe Nolan Richardson was about the UTEP job? Was Haskins behind the idea? Nolan is one of his boys.
If it is Barbee, good hire none the less.... So long as he actually stays in EP for a few seasons.

As usual, I felt the need to just say.....
You can't spell 'sucks' without KU!
That is all. Good day.
