My mother just called and she is flying down (with my aunt - who will help her deal with her extreme anxiety about airports and flying) to visit me next week! This is unexpected and very happy news for several reasons:
1. My mother has never flown, nor has she ever been south of Washington, DC. I honestly didn't think I would lure her down here to Louisiana to visit until my wife and I had children and made her a grandmother. She has come up with various excuses when I've tried to fly her down here in the past. I've also offered to fly up there, and escort her back down here. Apparently, according to my aunt, she really wants to see my house as well as me.
2. Due to Katrina and other work related stuff I haven't been back up to NJ in about 18 months which is as long as I've gone before. My mom is in her late 50's and has had some heart troubles (including needing bypass surgery) so it will be even more special to see her even if it just a few days.
3. My mom has never had the chance to meet Mrs. Eaglesfan's grandparents since they weren't able to come up to NJ for the wedding due to their own health problems.
Anyway, I'm very happy and unless my mom goes to bed earlier than expected, I won't be on the board much, if at all, between the 24th and 27th (sadly, she is only going to be here for 3 and a half days.)
Oh yeah, it appears that she bought the tickets before the recent terrorism scare, and almost returned them, but found out they are non-refundable, so she is going to deal with her anxiety. She told me today, rather than surprise me next week as she was planning, because she is going to ship some of her medical supplies down here via Fed-Ex rather than worry about how airport security will deal with them.
