So last night, it appears the picture tube on our 5-6 year old 36" RCA died. This was our main TV until we moved, at which point I bought a 50" plasma. Good thing, huh? The 36" went in the basement, where the computer is. So I need to replace it with something relatively cheap.

Assuming it's the picture tube, does anyone know what it will cost to get it repaired (or is there a good site for this kind of info)? What was happening the last couple of weeks is that the TV would click on and off; at first I thought it was some sort of electrical issue (since the house is new), but last night when it didn't come back on, I assumed the tube crapped out.

Should I just buy a new one, or is it worth having someone check it out?

You can probably call a repair shop and get a ballpark estimate of how much it's going to cost (then add 50% because they always lowball you). I'm guessing you'd be better off buying a new tv especially with the drop in tv prices over the last few years.

Borrow a tube from the internets.
