UEFA CL 2006/07 Predictions Comptetition

It's back! The UEFA Champions' League is back and so is the prediction competition. For the first round, predicted in which order all eight groups will finish. Predicting a top two team correct will receive one point, plus a bonus point if on the correct rank. A correctly predicted third ranked team also receives a point. Total number of points to be obtained this round is 40. Deadline is September 12th 2006 2:45 pm ET. I'll kick start with the group draw.

For the prediction competition's sake, here's what would happen in terms of modification of picks. If they don't get replaced, just the Portguese will be eliminated from the predictions and the teams behind will be pushed up. If they will be replaced by other teams, everybody will be free to add these new teams anywhere in the predictions, providing the other teams will stay in the same relative order (A #3 can't be picked to end up above a #2).

I think I should get more points for winning the Round 2 competition. :( Thing is, the second round wasn't there when Kosta started this competiton up. Back then there was another group phase, which made it easier to make it a big predictions round. As I took things over (initially just as a scorekeeper), I decided to keep the second round in with 2 points per game, meaning all the main stages of the tournament remained represented.

To use an English expression, they have looked utter gash.When I made my prediction, PSV hadn't lost half their team to injuries yet (before kickoff: Alex, Ibrahim Affelay, Arouna Kone, during the game: Edison Mendez, Phillip Cocu, Jefferson Farfan), nor been mentally destroyed after a 5-1 spanking in the league and 3-0 defeat in the cup competion.

That PK Milan got late in their Leg 1 game was "utter gash", whatever that means. But Munich got the late equalizer to give the fair result, and put them in the driver's seat for a Semifinal berth.

Here's a quick post semifinals update. We have two contestants left in the race for the 2006/2007 tipping title in atatange1 and condors, it means atatange1 wins this season's crown if Liverpool wins the CL final, while condors takes the honors with an AC Milan victory.

The 2006/2007 UEFA Champions' League season is over. Consequently that means the FOFC CL Prediction Competition is over as well.
