When would it be correct in No Limit Hold Em to fold a Royal Flush? There is one situation.

There is a semi-famous ESPN story about this very situation, where some jackass was about to collect a huge bad-beat jackpot and the even bigger jackass who was beating him mucked her cards.

Why? Your jackpot share from winning the pot is going to be bigger than the table share.

I don't think the BB jackbot is triggered unless it's 4 of a kind against a boat.

Since you are folding the hand, you can't win the hand or the pot. Therefore, your object is probably to win the most money. If that is the case, I can think of several situations when you should fold.

One example:
You and the other player are the only ones left. And, you will receive a larger percentage of the other player's winnings then your own winnings.

I'll guess that it's correct to fold if the royal flush is on the board. Everybody will lose money because of the rake.

So that wasn't the one situation. Hmmm. Well, I will await the answer, because I can't think of anything else.

Unless No Limit Hold Em is not refering to No Limit Texas Holdem but some other variation that I am not aware of where folding allows you to win? :confused:

Only thing I could think is if you are playing a variation with a wild card and you would be folding to a 5 of a kind.

Or if you were playing Omaha and your "royal" included only 2 community cards.

Poker Superstars is a round robin tournament format where you score points depending on how well you do in a series of 6 handed SNG's and then those with the most points move on to the next round.

Suppose it is the last SNG of the first round. Everyone has clinched a qualifying spot except you and Johnny Chan fighting for the final spot. Chan has a 5 point lead on you and one person has been eliminated. 5th place will get 1 pt. and 4th place will get 3 pts. 1st place is 7 pts.

Now you have flopped a royal flush, but Doyle Brunson (who you have covered) moves all in on you. You have to fold here. Why? Because if you eliminate Doyle, then Chan is guaranteed the 3 pts. for 4th place and you will not advance to the 2nd round even if you win.

And Omaha is never referred to as Hold 'Em.

The correct name of Omaha is Omaha Hold'em so it could be referred to that was just as easily as Texas Hold'em. Technically. Hey it's a riddle, you are supposed to look for your bad assumptions.

That's fine and all, but it's over anyway. Chan is going to fold everything until another player gets eliminated. With the blinds so low in the event, you can fold the night away until you get in. Just the fact that someone was already eliminated and Brunson was moving all in should tell you something. The other guys at the table don't care about you and Chan's little fight. They are going to move all in to try to increase their stacks for the next round. Honestly, I see a 0% chance that Chan gets involved in ANY hand until he gets 4th and clinches his spot.

So I'm playing for the 10k first place in the last prelim. I'll eliminate Doyle, congratulate Johnny and move on.

I'm sure it varies by casino, but it's going to be a boat or better (and many times aces full or better).
