Charlie Wagner, one of the ambassadors of the game of baseball and for the Boston Red Sox, passed away Wednesday night at the age of 93.

Wagner first joined the Red Sox organization in 1935 and played with Boston from 1938 to 1946 compiling a 38-23 record with a 3.91 ERA.

Wagner was also a roommate of Hall of Famer Ted Williams and Wagner has a street named after him at the Red Sox Spring Training complex in Fort Myers, Florida.

He was a longtime coach and instructor with the Red Sox and received a World Series ring in 2004.

Wagner was at a minor league game in Reading, Pennsylvania Wednesday night. As per his custom, he went to his car in the 7th inning. It was there he passed away from natural causes.

The 22-year-old left-hander was placed on the disabled list Monday with back pain, but tests revealed enlarged lymph nodes. The team said Lester has a treatable form of anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

It's not that. It's that many of the guys can't hit all of a sudden. Or the manager trading away a promising young pitcher for a washed-up "closer" who is apparently being paid by Steinbrenner. Or more of the freakish injuries, like Manny going down at exactly the wrong time.

Or just generally blowing big division leads in the fall which has been a bad habit of theirs for a long time.
