Here is the link to this week's TV listings:

And here is the coverage map for the 3:30 ET ABC game:

A pretty big rivalry game gets us started off with the Thursday Night Maryland @ West Virginia game.

Has there ever been a bigger better matchup than Auburn LSU that has gotten less press?

Auburn LSU is one of the most important games of the year, an interconference interdivision rivalry matchup of two top 6 teams. But gameday is at USC Nebraska? Thats the big game of the week? Insane.

No offense to nebraska fans, but what the hell is anyone doing talking about that program?

They haven't had a team worth talking about in years and certainly aren't a true upper echelon program any longer, yet they schedule a game with USC and suddenly we're supposed to have respect for them?

I'm pretty sure they do (since that's what I usually use) but only for certain games. Maybe 1/3rd of the D1 games on the average Saturday, based on my unscientific memory & impressions.

I think Gameday is at USC because that is the location of that Saturday night football game on ABC. I think the two locations will be the same more often than not.

It will be iteresting to see if the ESPN boys will mention this article detailing Bush's agent dealings. Apparently Yahoo! doesn't mess around with innuendo and bullshit like ESPN. They actually investigate.

I actually think Nebraska is better than people give them credit for. They won a conversational Alamo Bowl and ended the season 8-4. Callahan has recruited very well, and those recruits are now maturing. I don't think they are National Championship Contenders yet, but they are moving in the right direction.

I only watched the first quarter of the Maryland/West Virginia game, but damn. Slaton didn't even look like he was moving that fast on the TV. It just looked like the Terrapins were in slow motion. I guess you must be fast if you can make an ACC defense look like it's wearing cement shoes.

Well, the controversy surrounding the Worst Officiated College Bowl Game Ever(tm) certainly did lead to many interesting conversations, so, yeah, I guess it was a "conversational" Alamo Bowl. :D

It seems like neither team wants to win the Kansas-Toledo game. In the 1st OT, Toledo gets a 1st and Goal from the 8, and tries an unsuccessful 4th down play from the 25. On Kansas's first play, only needing a FG to win, they fumble to end the first OT.

cartman
09-15-2006, 11:09 PM
And yet another turnover dooms Kansas. They get a first down on a personal foul facemask call, and the QB then throws an INT. On Toledo's first play of OT their running back takes it to the house. Game over.

"Maryland, coming off two 5-6 seasons in a row, looks to be, at best, a middle-of-the-pack Atlantic Coast Conference team. It might be considerably more if it had, say, the best running back in the country on its roster.

To Friedgen's everlasting horror, it's beginning to look like that's exactly what he passed up on the day he pulled Steve Slaton's scholarship." - Bob Smizik, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

the games I'm most looking forward on this epic saturday are:

5. Michigan @ Notre dame: If Notre Dame wins, will the critics give them respect? or will they say michigan is on a down year and this win doesn't mean anything?

4. Navy @ Stanford: After Stanford got upset by san jose st. I just want to see if they are really that bad this year, LOL

3. LSU @ Auburn: I wonder if Kenny Irons can top 200 against them again? and if he can will it be enough.. this one intrigues me.

2. UNLV @ Hawaii: The Warriors could/SHOULD win this game by 2 touchdowns, damn foos better show up . Colt Brennan is 10x better then Timmy Chang.

1. Oklahoma @ Oregon: REVENGE, not duck soup. Dennis Dixon and Jonathon Stewart will lead the ducks to victory, if only because it's a home game, and you can't win at the Autzen zoo, you just can't.

Sadly, it's becoming very apparent that this season is shaping up to be a 3-4 loss season for VT. The defense/special teams are stellar, but our offense is crippled by the fact that our QB is very, very bad. If you're familiar with Tech, this is going to be like the Grant Noel year all over again...except while Noel didn't have the arm to be a Div I-A QB, at least he made good decisions every once in a while. Glennon? No arm, bad audibles, poor decision making.

No kidding... The ESPN/ABC (Disney) Bias at its finest.

Auburn/LSU is the matchup of the day. The Northern Indiana area (Notre Dame) SUCKS!!! Why would you want to go to school there, when there are so many other prettier choices available.

And I still don't understand why the Chicago area is getting the OU/Oregon game today instead of Miami/'Ville. Weird.

Taylor's solid, but I just can't see a way they win the Big 12. They're improved certainly and may win the North (although Missouri has looked really good), but I think they're still behind Texas, OU and even Texas Tech.

That said, I'm intrigued by the game as well. I'm very curious to see how they do against quality competition.

Flashier and more televised? Yeah. Better and more compelling? I'm a Big East guy, but even I will admit that LSU/Auburn is overall a better series of games than practically any other. Gotta give it to the SEC -- they have BY FAR the best conference in football this year.

GT just went up 21-14 on Troy in the opening minute of the 4th quarter.

Calvin Johnson has a whopping 2 catches for 9 yards.
Reggie cantthrowtheBall is 12/27, 154, 2 TDs/2 Int's. 14 carries/115 yds.

That last bit scares me, considering that stat I found about their record when he rushes for more than 50.

Well, one of those picks was a hail mary with 0:04 left in the first half, so not indicative of his performance. This definately was another slow-down type game for GT - the starting defense was pulled partway through the fourth quarter when the game looked "in the bag", since it's a short week before Thursday night's game with Virginia. I'm happy with the 35-20 win, although I wish we could have rested more players for longer. The only worry is Calvin Johnson - he was hurt in the second quarter and sat out most of the rest of the first half, and pieces of the second... his carry for 21 yards and the 2-9 catches were before the injury.

Or I could let you hate a group of people based on the inevitable bad apples that every fan base has or based on stories that probably didn't happen. Was there a thread about Clemson freshman Ray Ray McElrathbey and how he is raising his brother on here that I missed (or have forgotten.) I saw this story on College Gameday earlier today and don't believe I've heard of it before. Basically, his mother appears to be a drug addict and his 11 year old brother was facing going into state custody, so he is raising his brother instead while going to class and playing on the team. Remarkably, the NCAA has waived some of their restrictions and is allowing a fund to accept donations from the public to aid in the cost of taking care of his brother. It's a heart warming story.

Jamarcus Russell played like an idiot on that last drive, particularly the play on which he didn't throw the ball away and got sacked. He wasted way too much time on that play. I also don't understand the last play where he throws the ball to the 5-yard-line. I mean, that's not entirely his fault, as that's where the receiver was, but he should not have thrown the ball anywhere except into the end zone.

Anyway, it was a hell of a game, but the no-call on the pass interference was garbage, and so were the announcers. I hope those refs get chewed out by the SEC, and I hope the announcers get chewed out by CBS. Gosh, they were awful.

I have been to road trips all around the SEC and you will not find more visiting fans fed and invited to tailgate than at LSU. And thats in broad daylight where everyone can see. But thats not because LSU fans are any "nicer" than any other fans. Its because so many love to cook and share in what they are proud of(tailgating).

Fans don't get meaner or nicer when you cross a boarder or go from one similiar state university to another. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous. LSU has the same "type" of fans as Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas, Georgia, ect ect.
LSU fans can be rowdy, but so would any of those universities if they tailgated as long as LSU fans do(because LSU traditionally has so many night games). Alchy would/does make any fan base you may think is polite into a rowdy bunch.

"The Universe tends to unfold as it should"

exactly right for this game.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DUCKS
I didn't watch the whole game, as I was watching LSU and Auburn, so I'll just take your word for it. I just don't see how a replay official screws up these calls when they're looking at multiple angles of replays. The officials on the field have to make quick decisions, and I can see where their mistakes come from sometimes. As far as the video review guy goes, though, it's inexcusable.

Oklahoma got screwed by the replay official. The pass interference call was questionable, but the onside kick play was garbage. Every single replay showed that Oregon touched the ball first before it went 10 yards, and the replay official claimed that there was conclusive video evidence that Oklahoma touched it first. What in the world?

The even crazier thing that the TV crews were too idiotic to catch is that Oregon never even recovered the kick. You could see clearly just as they were cutting away from the replay each time that the ball was loose between someone's legs. An Oklahoma player simply picked it up, but the officials and everyone else assumed that had happened after someone had torn it away in the scrum. The ball wasn't even in the scrum.

I can honestly say the last minute of this game was the single worst minute of sports officiating I've ever seen. Crazy stuff.

I would never have thought the TCU-Texas Tech game would be 6-3 halfway through the 3rd quarter.

Swing ... and a miss.

Well, that's what I get for making assumptions based on location. Ah well. Still, the "reputation" you ascribe to LSU is shared by visiting fans from many colleges, so I don't understand why you single them out. But that's your thing, I guess.

I could get real used to Notre Dame and Miami getting blown out on the same day like this.

That was an incredibly tough loss for Oklahoma, though. People on both sides will be talking about that ending for years.

You know, now if Tennesee-Florida would end with both teams committing hara-kari, it would be the perfect day.

This, I have heard from multiple sources, is true. Many folks all across the country, Big Ten, SEC, ACC, etc., have said no one tailgates like LSU does.

I hadn't seen it until I moved to this new neighborhood this year, but I made the mistake of going out last Saturday to run some errands that were sort of close to the stadium. Tailgating is rampant and looks quite savory. I'm going to go to a game in person later this year and we are going to start tailgating very early. :)

I think the Oregon-Oklahoma game was just the first phase of an evil referee revolution. In the Tenn-Florida game the officials are going to award themselves 55 points and tag both teams with losses. Then they will urinate on someone.

I really love TIVO. But today, as an OU fan, I just want to get rid of it.

Just hurts.

Yeah, but Teel looked like crap. Worse than crap, actually. If he keeps playing like that, we are gonna be in trouble when conference play starts.

I don't think I've ever actually seen a blocked XP run back for a 2-point touchdown. Until now. 6-2 Clemson.

Oklahoma played "not to lose" when they got a 13 point lead late in the game, settled for too many field goals inside the redzone, and had another piss-poor defensive performance. They did not deserve to win this game.

What's really funny is that before the season everyone was saying that Paul Thompson was going to be a liability and the defense was going to carry them. It is actually much closer to being the reverse of that at this point.

Western Michigan 17 ... at Virginia 10

Toledo 37 ... Kansas 31 2OT

Central Michigan 24 ... Akron 21

Central Michigan 24 ... Akron 21

This should not be surprising. Central played well against Boston College and had a shot to win in the last 3 minutes. They also held their own against Michigan and showed that they have some players. It is going to be a tough team to beat this season in the MAC.

FIRE UP CHIPS!!!

As a huge Ducks fan, i completely agree. Oklahoma got jobbed. This was the 1st full college game ive watched this year and i now officially hate replay. The change the clock rules, yet allow the game to have countless replay on any kind of play.

Just for the record, I agree with this completely. In fact, Oregon outplayed OU in the 1st half to the point that the Sooners should've been counting their blessings they were even still in that game.

Nonetheless, it doesn't change the officiating.

Hey, bad calls happen. It's part of the game. You win some, and you lose some. I'm just surprised so many went against the Sooners in such a short period of time. It makes the TT game last year look like a model referee training video.

I'm a bit speechless after that one. But congrats to the Ducks and their fans anyway. It was a great game, and there are some very classy Oregon fans out there (at least on the internet).

And Clemson's next kick is a FG try - blocked and ran back for a touchdown. 9-6 Florida State, with all FSU's points coming off returns from blocked kicks.

If ever coaches deserved to be fired/players deserved to be cut at halftime, this is it.

That's the last three kicks for Clemson blocked. The first was an XP that caused the 2OT loss against BC, the next two returned for scores. This would be absolutely unacceptable if I was a Clemson fan.

Of course, I can't stand Clemson, so it's just amusing.
