Lathum said he was the king of moving in dangarion's thread so I'm willing to bet I have moved more times than he has. Antmeister and I were discussing how many times we've moved and I thought he'd beat me by far (military brat) but oh no, I've moved a lot more than I had imagined:
While living in Los Angeles, CA:
1. Born in "Lincoln Heights"
2. Moved to a different area in "Lincoln Heights"
3. Moved to "South Central L.A."
4. Moved to "East L.A."
5. Moved to a different area in "East L.A."
6. Moved to the "Mid-Wilshire District" (near Hollywood)
While living in San Diego, CA:
7. Moved to Vista, CA
8. Moved to "Ranch Bernardo"
9. Moved to Escondido, CA
10. Moved to "Scripps Ranch"
We moved to 2 different apt. complexes in Phoenix, AZ.
And finally, Austin, TX
So let's see... I've moved a total of 13 times in my 32 years of life. That means I've averaged just under 2.5 yrs per place.
I defy anyone to beat that.

I'm 27 and have moved 9 times. Funny thing is, I really didn't think I had moved all that much..

I'm right there with you, 11 times in 31 years ( I think ). And that doesn't count all the 4-5 week trips to various places while my stuff was in Saldana's shed.

Nomads might be able to beat it. Do we have any here? :)

13 times in 36 years myself. But, one of those was Lackland AFB and technically, we lived 4 weeks with my ex's Aunt while our place was being finished in California so.. maybe 14.
Depends on what is considered a 'move'

1. Born and adopted in Edmonton and lived on one of the military bases.
2. Dad was transfered to Ottawa...lived on one of the bases there.
3. We moved off the base...folks still live in this house.
4. Moved away to Antigonish, Nova Scotia for school.
5. When I got home, I moved out to a buddy's place.
6. Moved out to Edmonton...well, Sherwood Park to be more specific.
7. Moved into Edmonton with some friends.
8. Moved in with some friends from work in a different part of Edmonton.
9. Moved in with my girlfriend (now my wife) in another part of Edmonton.
10. We bought a house in Edmonton and live there now.
Wow, didn't think I had moved that much, especially since my parents have owned their house for more than 25 years. That averages out to about 3 years per location.

I think I've lived in 10 or 11 different houses in my lifetime. All of them were in New Orleans except (obviously) the one I live in now. A couple of the places I lived in were actually just with family members because my family's house burned down in 1996, and we moved around a little until we got resettled. Anyway, 9 or 10 moves in 30 years. I guess that's sort of normal. My wife, on the other hand, lived in either one or two houses in Memphis, one in New Orleans, and one in Greensburg. She doesn't know the whole "moving" experience. :D

Not as much as many:
1. Born in Somers Point, NJ.
2. Moved to Atlantic City, NJ when I was 2.
3. Parent Divorced, moved to Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
4. Moved to Los Angeles for school (and back and forth each summer to NJ for semester breaks)
5. Moved to Piscataway, NJ for start of medical school.
6. Moved to Pennsauken, NJ to be closer to clinical sites.
7. Moved to Metairie, LA into first apartment down here.
8. Moved to New Orleans, LA into second apartment down here.
9. Moved to another apartment in New Orleans, LA that was being provided by a hospital I worked at.
10. Moved to New House in Prairieville, LA. 31 years old and averaged 3.1 years per place, but most of my moves have happened since I turned 17.

So either 14 city moves or 24 house moves...depending on how you rate it. I'm just a wanderer by force, but one day I want to buy a home and never move again.

Summer vacations from college don't count ;) You still "live" at home and go to college during the semesters ;)
I didn't have a home anymore when I got to college. Parents divorced when I was 17, house got sold, Mom moved in with a guy I couldn't stand, Dad lived elsewhere. I moved every semester in college and yes they all count. So I racked up quite a few moves in college. I stopped counting when I turned 30 and had moved 30 times. (My parents liked moving -- probably trying to escape their problems..)
I can't even remember all the places I've lived. But I'm pretty stable now that I've been married for years and have my own kids.

I'm 24 years old, and I've moved a grand total of four times. Born in Detroit, Michigan, moved from Detroit to Dearborn when I was two years old. From the age of two until I was twenty one I lived in the same house in Dearborn. Two years ago we moved into the house we're staying in now, in Allen Park. Stayed in this house for three years and we're moving tomorrow back to Dearborn, but a very different part of town from where I originally stayed.
So a grand total of four times in 24 years. It's okay though, I quite like the stability.

I feel like I'm missing something in there ... The sad thing is that moves 6-18 took place over just 11 years -- that's 13 moves in 11 years.
I expect to move again within the next 3-5 years, and I hope that one will be long term.
Matt, they shouldn't count, you need to actually live outside a relative small radius. Before you now it, you'll claim that you've actually experienced the world by living in one small part of the country. :)

I think you should always count college moves from one dorm to another (or from a dorm to apartment, etc). For the summer if you just put your stuff in storage and go back to live with your parents that probably shouldn't count, but if you actually move everything back and forth it should count IMO.

Oh, and Dodgerchick, you do know there are safer neighborhoods in LA to live in right? :D
You mean it's not normal to hear police sirens in the middle of the night? ;)
None of those were by choice of course, from "Lincoln Heights" through East L.A. were all while I lived with my parents; the others were after Ant and I moved in together.

11. Monmouth, IL - for college, lived in dorm for a year
12. Philadelphia, PA - residency prior to internship
13. Boston, MA - internship
14. Monmouth, IL - new apartment
15. Bantam, CT -
16. Hillsboro, OR - internship
17. Sheridan, WY -
18. Laramie, WY -
19. Laramie, WY - to a new apartment
Only counted actual moves where I packed my crap and had to "move out" of a permanent dwelling of some sort.
All but the first two moves have come since during the past eight years. I'm moving again later this year to a new apartment. I ended up spending a total of six years in Illinois, the only state I've lived in longer than New Jersey. Wyoming won't surpass that because I'll still work in the state, but plan to buy a house late next year in Colorado and commute from there rather than from Wyoming.
This thread doesn't make me feel quite as weird for having lived in so many different places, because I get weird comments from friends back home -- or really, just lots of folks who don't travel -- pretty often.

Oh, I've covered a fair distance. Willard, Ash Grove and Ebenezer are a million miles from anywhere. :)
Just be thankfully that I didn't use this as an opportunity to relate the story about how I had to carry my TV up to the seventh floor of Mark Twain Hall at Mizzou because some dumbass freshmen from some BFE town broke the elevators. :)

I cannot find the article any more, so we are relying on memory here, but someone studied this and found that the average person moved 13 times in their life, 11 or so of which were by age 30.
Why that was important to study I have no idea.

Actually, #4-6 were 8 years total, not 13 as it implies. You know how it is when you go to undergrad not too far away from your parents. I moved back a couple of summers, as well as the year after graduation before I went to grad school. During that period (1978-1984), it seemed like I had a different address 3 times a year.

From 0-18 I lived in 2 houses in Milford, OH, but they were on the same street.
From 18-20 I've lived in 1 dorm and 2 apartments in Fairborn, all on the same road.
So it's kinda like I've only moved once. But the moving part of it definitely feels like I've lived in 5 different spots. Speaking of which, I move into that next apartment Friday and am NOT looking forward to it.
Edit, make it 2 dorms, but I don't count it because it was during just 1 school year, and it was hardly a move, just next door.

That's a total of 14 different residences (the one in Kettering twice), and 14 moves. I swore the previous move was the last, but I just moved to West Carrollton in June. Now I'm at a place I can stay until I own a house or condo or something.
What apartments in Fairborn? I haven't been able to get off Zink.

Under 4 years of age was pretty sketchy. Moved a lot and parents got divorced, so there may be 3 or 4 spots there, but we'll start counting when my mom moved in with my step-father:
1. House in Avondale, GA (4-8)
2. House in Stone Mountain, GA (8-18)
3. College Dorms (2 different dorms in 4 years, 3 rooms in the second dorm) (18-22)
3.a. Lived in Valdosta, GA for 3 of college summers.
4. I'll count my 3 different apartments during law school as a/b/c, because my name was on different leases there.
a. Apartment in Charlottesville
b. Room in House in Keswick, VA
c. Room in House in Scottsville/Charlottesville/Brown's Mountain, VA
d. Lived in my parent's house in Dunwoody, GA after my first year of law school
e. Apartment in Westwood, CA after my second year in law school.
5. Apartment in Los Angeles with wife (her original apartment) for about a month after we got married. (lived there one month)
6. Apartment in Los Angeles with wife for two years.
7. Bought house in Hollywood...lived there 8 years.
8. Moved to Studio City (another house) two years ago.

Thats 20 odd moves and I think around 15 unique towns.
The strange thing is - I don't think I've moved around that much - never felt 'unstable' and I always generally have felt at home where ever I am :)

I had no idea what either meant until I just went and urban dictionary'd it. And if it's the meaning I think it is, which was not what I expected, I now have this image of Jon as a chain smoking valley girl from the south, which doesn't really make much of an image at all.

Almost had a move to San Diego in 2003 (thankfully that didn't happen as I heard the company didn't turn that position into a permanent position like they said they were going to).
Almost had a move to Biloxi in 2004 (glad I didn't thanks to Katrina, it also would have meant a required move to St. Louis as the company I almost went to work for had their headquarters destroyed in Biloxi and turned a secondary St. Louis office into their headquarters afterwards); came real close to that one but they couldn't wait and wanted me there immediately so I said no thanks.
Basically 4 moves and have never been more than 20 miles from the home I grew up in.
I would find it hard to move away from here to be honest. I have friends that I have known since I was 4 that I still get together with (we play poker every couple months).
