I mean really, this woman needs to get a life. While I'm all for women's rights and such, she ought to give this a rest. Who the hell really give a damn whether Augusta has female members. Let her start her own fricken club and tournament if she's that concerned. Sometimes I just think people protest just because they think it's the in thing to do.

I think the blurb about the WNBA is interesting. WIth luck, Burkwill get the players more money and the league will fold.

dola -

I know this has been hashed before, but why can't men be allowed to have things to the themselves unless they are worthless?

Burk seems to be one of those people who'd rather see things destroyed than build something herself.

In the process, she's making Hootie a bit of a folk hero.

There you go again, speaking in that odd manner where you reference yourself in the plural like gollum.

"Has we got our penises. Yessssss, yessssss."

I can tell my brain is fried today. For about two seconds, I thought you were refering to "Hootie" of "Hootie and the Blowfish"

I think I need a vacation.

I'm nervous since you didn't deny it...

Anyway I haven't done a ton of reading on this but since when has Burk been a women's atheltics advocate?

What I find mildly amusing is that there's a fuss over whether or not women should be invited to join Augusta, but many of the same media sources clamoring for such inclusion are saying that Annika Sorenstam has absolutely nothing to gain, and everything to lose, but persisting with her desire to play against the boys in a PGA tour event.

I mean, clearly you'd think there's more inequity in the latter than the former. The former is a private gathering of like-minded individuals, who aren't hurting anything, save perhaps for the egos of these shrill, small-minded folks who think that unless every male institution is "integrated," as it were, that it's not worth keeping.

The latter is a case of economic disparity, from a certain point of view. The men make more on the PGA tour than the ladies do on their counterpart, and they gain far more media exposure for their efforts, so I could certainly understand a push to integrate the tours so that men and women competed on the same links, were such a movement to arise.

But the whole Augusta debate is reminiscient of a childhood fort with a sign that says "No gurlz aloud." So a bunch of guys want a place where they can hang out together without a female influence around to moderate their behavior.

What, exactly, is the big deal about that?

It's such a non-arguement that it's growing stale. As for the PGA/LPGA I have no interest in hearing that unless they allow men to hit from the reds and qualify for LPGA events.

I have nothing against equal rights but if women are seriously interested in competing in the PGA ranks than they should get rid of the all womens tour and go to Q school.

I agree here.

As for the LPGA/WNBA/ETC players making less. That has everything to do with ad-sales.

What's the big deal? As John Galt would lovingly say, it's all about righting (selected) past wrongs and tearing down the (supposed) tyranny of men. It has nothing to do with equality but as with most causes, it has more to do with attacking others instead of building up.

That means men can sue to go to all women's colleges right?

Same guy. Don't you remember that Hootie Johnson and the Blowfish song? I think the Chorus went like this:

Let her cry … if the fences bar her from our game
Let her sing … but her songs are all in vain
Let her go … we will not be part of her debris
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
I'll be at the tee … I'll be at the tee.

Could you imagine the crap she would come up with if the WNBA did in fact fold someday.. We'd be hearing all about how Lisa Leslie could play Power Forward for the Lakers and Sue Bird in the backcourt for the Sonics.

By the way, where was she when the ABL folded? Probably too busy pestering a North Dakota Moose/Elk's Lodge into including female members.

"Augusta-Richmond County officials have said protesters will not be allowed near the club's main gates because of dangerous traffic on Washington Road. Burk said the alternative protest sites are too far from the club."

Tough shit, bitch.

Guys, I think you're being insensitive here. Women's rights are important. We as men may not understand, but we need to make an effort to learn.

For example, I've learned from Martha Burke and the media folks who keep putting her on the front page that the single most important equality issue in the world today is the ability of rich old women to join expensive golf clubs.

I would have thought it would be abortion rights, or the brutalization of women in the third world, but apparently not. It's all about the golf. I feel more informed already.

Um, that is Martha's point, right?

Some guy in Wisconsin is suing a chain of all-female fitness centers. Apparently, women should not be allowed to bounce and bend over if men cannot gawk at them.

I also want access to the lounge area built into some womens restrooms, or I want those places to include a couch and extra space in the mens room.

I wholeheartedly agree with this one! Why do women can all the amenities and not men? I'm gonna sue the next place I see that has that double standard!

This was done one a Drew Carey episode. A guy who worked at Drew's company came to him complaining how women had a couch in their restroom and the guys didn't. Drew settled the issue by asking, "If there was a couch in the mens restroom would you want to lie down on it?"

Though some women still think we have it better then them. At some college (don't recall the name) a fem-nazi group got all urinals removed from the mens bathroom because "upright urination is a status symbol men use for superiority over women" or something along those lines. Dumbasses.

Will she please shut the hell up?!?!?!

IT'S A PRIVATE CLUB. Ya it may not be fair, but you can't force the club to change if they don't want to.

All I want to do is wear a tampon dammit! Is that to much to ask?
