The premier was 30 minutes shorter than usual but they did give us double the eliminations. Wonder what other "surprises" they have in store.
Props to Sarah for getting up that wall.
Preview for the next ep looks good with whoever getting clotheslined by the tree.

Watching with my wife, she asked me which team I was rooting for. All of them annoyed me for one reason or another, except for the two triathletes - the one with Sarah that has only one leg. I thought they were a pretty neat "feel-good" story. Then that bitch pulled out the "I'm a cripple" card and jumped a line for a taxi saying "Its an emergency!" and pointing to her fake leg. Emergency? Playing game and working the handicap angle? Fuck her, I hope they lose next week and she falls off the next wall.

Have to agree with that sentiment. Wasn't so bad when she used that to get onto the plane first as that is pretty much standard policy for planes, but using it for the taxi first was pretty weak.
Last night was actually the first time I've watched this show since the first episode of the original one. I liked that one and last night was fun. Might have to try paying more attention this time around. I guess I'm pulling for the father and daughter. Although hopefully the cheerleaders stick around for awhile.

I'm pulling for the father/daughter as well. I find that scenario very interesting. I guess I don't get the whole situation where a parent is so harsh on their kid for doing nothing more than being attracted to the 'wrong' sex. I will soon be having my first kid. I can honestly say that if my kid happens to end up, for one reason or another, being gay, I don't have a problem with it. I'm much more concerned about them making wrong decisions in life such as drugs, alcohol, abusive relationships, etc. I guess generations older than myself were brought up in a different time.
It did appear from the father/daughter's interactions in only the first episode that Dad was quickly realizing that he might have been a bit hasty in his conclusions regarding closing off his daughter for a long period of time. Also, you can tell that his daughter really wants his acceptance. It would appear that this is going to be a great way for them to get back to being father/daughter again.

Maybe, but for that creep to say - on camera - that he was disappointed in his daughter because she was gay was revolting.

He's not happy with the path she's following, but at least it looks like he's at least making the effort to accept it and trying to stay a part of her life. That's a hard thing for some parents to find out about their children. Some handle it better than others. But he's making the effort and so is his daughter.

I don't know. It appeared as though he was really conflicted about the whole situation. His words appeared to be coming straight what his parent/grandparents taught him, but his emotions when he said that obviously seemed to contradict his statement. It was like he was almost troubled by his own beliefs or what he was taught. It will certainly be an interesting thing to watch as the show goes along.

I kind of read into the fathers comments that he was dissapointed in himself about the reaction he had, the fights etc...
as for the show it was pretty standard. My fiance and I were discussing the double eliminations and how we liked it. I also agree with the sentiments about the triatheletes.
I can't wait to see the fights the dating couples will have.

I don't have a clear favorite, but I enjoy the different personalities on the show. The father/daughter team is one of my favorites; I got all mushy when the girl got teary eyed when rooting for her dad.

I'd hate to have a disability and see Sarah jumping around trying to earn money off it. That was disgusting and it was pretty sad. It seems as if that team is using it to the hilt, bringing it up whenever they can. I know part of it is the edit and the fact that the producers are trying to play it up as if she's overcoming all these obstacles, but it just seems really...tacky.
I'm rooting for the Cho brothers and the beauty queens.

I think this was the first time that they (the show) didn't give any money to the teams for the entire leg. Of course, the teams could have earned money by selling more flowers than what was needed but only the dad/daughter team needed the money. Nice twist.

OK - rant time.
Why the FUCK do they stagger the start of the contestants - as if to give the teams who finished first an advantage - only to have them WAIT for hours at their next destination? IT IS FUCKING STUPID! They do this EVERY time they stagger the start. The first 4 or 5 teams roll out early, get to their goal, and then sit on their ass for hours while the other 5 teams roll up and they all wait together. Every plane trip, train ride, bus trip, entry to a museum, performance, and travel agency has done this. This has pretty much killed any interest I have in this show, since the producers have eleiminated any real competition and simply made this a game of chance. Get the right taxi driver? you do well. Get bad advice from a local? you lose. Fuck this stupid game.

Would you want to watch a show where the lead team is two days ahead of the others at the end of the race?Days? No, but when you finish 8 *hours* ahead of another team, and then that lead becomes *seconds* when you meet up in line at the travel agent and take the same flight to Vietnam, the staggered start is disingenuous. Just start everyone off at the same time, and let the teams leave - in order - in 20 minute intervals from the airport. When everyone get a car for a challenge, give the first place team a new one and the last place team a hoopty. If finishing 2nd is no different than finishing 2nd-to-last, then stop pretending that it does.

Last week had a new twist to the non-elimination leg where the team coming in last would keep their money and stuff but they had to finish first in the next leg or receive a 30 minute penalty.
I wonder if the show will always followup a non-elim leg with one that has a fast forward. It seems it'll make for better TV to not have the fast forward and having a team wait for 30 minutes.
Good to see the Cho brothers good (yet stupid) deed didn't end up getting them eliminated.

My wife made the comment last night that Kentucky has been doing a lot of the right things - they get along with just about everyone, and it definately paid off with the Chos last night. Glad to see they didn't get bumped, as well - and really, glad to see Sarah + whatshisname get knocked off... was getting sick of their infighting. This is the first time (and I haven't watched all of the races) I've seen one of the "we're doing this to see how we work together romantically" couples end up saying "yeah... uh... we're done." at the end, though.

I'm curious to see what happens between the Alabama moms and the blond chicks next week. Those blond chicks have it coming and I hope they get eliminated next week.
I'm really rooting for the Cho brothers; it was because of them that Alabama stayed in the game and I'd like to see them make it as far as possible, if not win the whole thing.
I'm glad the triathletes are gone. I was disgusted that they kept using what-her-face's "handicap" to get farther in the game. What's up with her doing all the climbing challenges? Antmeister and I thought maybe they agreed to have her do that to prove to herself that she could overcome anything. But the guy was a jerk and I'm glad they broke up for her sake. Good riddance ass.

Yeah, they let the male models right back into that leg by waiting for Alabama and Kentucky. Kentucky and the Cho's need to decide if they're in this to be friends or to win the money. I know both of them could use the money, but they're really in danger of both losing out because of their alliance.

I really don't mind the blondes. While their is an air of back-stabbing to them, they're having a lot of fun and enjoying the different legs of the race (something I'd probably not be able to do, I'd have too much "go! go!" and worry about the race).
Alabama proved that they're just as back-stabbing as the blondes when they jumped ahead waiting for the taxis (and left the Chos behind). Really, I don't get this altruistic nature by the Chos. Sure, it's good to be nice, but eventually you have to realize it's a race, especially when Alabama pulled the taxi maneuver.
You can win a race and still maintain your dignity without making a concerted effort to wait for your friends.

The difference between the Barbies and Bama is that the Barbies are only screwing over the people on the race. Bama is being nasty to the innocents around them (cutting in line at the Taxis being the most recent example). I'll be ticked off if Bama wins this thing, as they are one of the nastiest teams they've ever had. Infighting among the teams I consider part of the race, but punishing people not involved in the race at all is just not cool.
I'm still pulling for the Chos who have done a good job of maintaining their integrity while playing hard.

Dam, can we just get rid of team Alabama? While this episode they were right for not following along behind the Chos, what they did last week with the taxi cut (when you start screwing with people who aren't even in the race) that was just the last straw for their annoyance level. Now we'll get to hear about how the other teams are all working against them next week, or some excuse like that.
I have to say; although there are people who can't stand the blondes, they have been major players this season. They aren't just tagging along on people's coat-tails. They have really stepped up to play.

I agree with Raiders.
I think the Cho brothers played the game about as poorly as any team in any season, they just happen to be fortunate to be in a season were pretty much ALL of the teams are average at best. In many past seasons with better teams they would have been gone weeks ago.
now, don't get me wrong, I loved the Cho brothers - thought they played with integrity and sincere concern for others. Out of all of the seasons, they are probably two of the most quality "real" people on the show - but I think they are really, really bad at playing the game.

What is the fascination with Rob and Amber? They've been on 2 Survivors, they had their own wedding special, now 2 Amazing Races AND their own reality show? Too much exposure but I gotta hand it to them, they know how remain in the spotlight.
Well, the fact they have their own reality show is doesn't bode well for their marriage... look at how many couples have had a reality show and how many of them landed in divorce (Brittney and Kevin; Lachey and Simpson, to name a few).

Yup, Ant and I wondered the same. Last season they had the flags puzzle which anyone could have won, but the taxi thing was a little too easy... just find the place and you win. Can someone tell me what happened leaving France to go to NY? I was trying to do some work and guess I missed it. Evidentally I missed a very crucial 5 minutes there.

I was sitting there with my wife watching it, noting that Rob and Kim had gotten on, but that the other teams were hoping to get in on standby. I told my wife that there would be no way CBS could let this finish turn into a blowout and they'd find SOME way to get the other teams on the plane (a vague echo of what happened when Rob and Amber threatened to run away with TAR a few seasons back but they brought the plane back in). Sure enough, the guys got on. Wonder how much CBS had to pay someone to give up their seats?

Ahh that figures. Was my first time ever watching amazing race, and only really watched the last 3-4 episodes, but I'm not thrilled by it. If they reset the playing field each time, it just loses alot of its appeal. I know others stated this complaint along with the reason why they do this (so one team isnt 24 hours ahead by some point)... but you know what... to me if a team is that good that they get that far ahead, well good for them they deserve the $1million.
Ahh well, gave it a try.

The guys team got on the flight from the stand by list. Bama didn't get on the flight and was on a flight an hour and a half later. They weren't shown again in the episode until they got to the finish line.

i was also very confused about what happened with bama. That being said I was glad the guys won. I admire them considering how they cleaned their lives up.

I'm glad they cleaned up too. I really, really hope the money doesn't tempt them to start up again.

Yeah, it was disappointing. It really turned into a How Fast Can You Run and Get Lucky With the Taxi Driver to win.
It wasn't even "How Fast Can You Run". It was strictly a "Get Lucky With the Taxi Driver" win. The only way they lose after getting the EZ-Pass cab while Rob & Kim got stuck with the moron without one (how are you a cabbie up there without one?) is if the models get lost on the way to the finish.
Very disappointing finish.

Given every leg began with the contestants at a staggered start based on finish, and then at the VERY NEXT task everyone was waiting at the same airport/train station/museum/whatever for it to open, the "Race" part was a total sham. I don't care if some teams are 2-3 countries behind, make the race legit for chrissakes.

In a strange sense, this sort of thing was done right back in "Treasure Hunters" because everyone knows everybody starts each leg equal. After that it's up to you. Only rarely were artificial bottlenecks ever used on that series. The artificial bottlenecks imposed to keep the racers together on TAR is one of the things that drives me crazy about it. It's almost totally irrelevant to have a huge lead at any point because you know there will be some task or some flight that will forcibly level the field out again.
Granted, you can't have it swing the other way too much or a race will turn into a blowout, which kills ratings. Mainly, I think they should just abandon the farce that each team somehow gets a benefit in time by finishing X minutes ahead and just make everyone go at the same time the next day. Basically the advantage should then shift to greater rest periods for teams who finish earlier. Better than having people staggering out at 2 AM only to discover the first task doesn't open until 10 AM or something like that.

I wouldn't mind it if perhaps they just changed the episodes to start/end around the moving between countries. Have the finish line be at the airport or something for each phase.
After the day's adventures they finally find out they need to go from France to South Africa for example. So its a race to the finish line at the airport.
Team 1 gets there at 10pm
Team 2 gets there at 10:45pm
Team 3 gets there at 11:15pm
End of the episode/night.
Next episode/day starts with team 1 getting to start right at 7am (time of first flight).
Team 2 has a 45 min delay so can't take first flight so has to catch next flight
Team 3 has 1:15 delay so can't take first flight.
There will still be possibilities for teams to overcome a few hour difference that way. Just making the airports be the place that everyone always catches up makes the game uninteresting fast.
Or they could change it so you all start the leg at the same time, but get different amounts of starting money based on your previous finish.

Basically, if the first part of the day's events requires you o go to some temple and search for some artifact, and the temple doesn't open until 7AM, then send the FIRST TEAM out at 7, and stagger the rest of the losers after that.
Watching the winning team race away at 4AM only to get somewhere and sleep for 8 hours waiting for the place to open and all the other teams catching up stinks.

Yep, that's why I quit watching TAR after one season (the Rob/Amber one). It's too bad because it's a fun show, but there is no integrity to the results because of ridiculous bunching, etc. From what I understand, the first season of the show didn't have as much bunching and resulted in one team getting wayyyyy ahead, and CBS figured out they had to change things up for suspense purposes. Of course, all "reality" TV is manipulated to some degree, but this is just too much for me. It seems to me TAR will inevitably always come down to whoever gets the best cab driver on the last part of the last leg.
