View Full Version : Please help. This is unreal.
I have no idea what to do here. My team has challenged for the League One title for 4 years in a row, only to fall apart at the end of the season and then lose in the playoffs each time. Now, 2013 starts, and, yeah I've replaced a couple of players, but the talent drop-off isn't huge, but wowow. This is awful. I have 6 points after 8 games. And look at this.

The board is pretty unhappy and I'm not long for this job, I'm afraid. I need a tip or two.

What does your Asst Mgr say, and I dont think I have ever seen 1's for players ratings after a game, wow. What formation are you using? You might want to check and see if your team needs to play more defensively than you are now..
Wow... 1s.
Well I'm usually pretty experimental when it comes to formations, not afraid to try things. However, I had been trying to go back to basics for the last few games trying to right the ship. This game was a standard 4-4-2 Normal with few to no alterations. Not attacking or defensive on the scale. The assistant manager doesn't say much that is helpful.

Well talent-wise, we were picked as favorites for promotion pre-season THIS SEASON. The core of this team has challenged for the title the past 4 years in a row. It's a strong team. I lost Tomasz Kosidowski, a great striker, but I replaced him with a good striker and a great midfielder/striker. The only other guy I lost was a guy I could really do without (a poor to average defender that I only played cause he was like 19 or so on crossing--Mario Eggiman).
I just don't think talent is the issue. Or depth.

Have you tried playing some young players from your reserves or U-18's? Sometimes their excitement is worth a win or two that can help right the ship.

Your team's confidence is likely completely shot at this point. A bad run made worse by this result.
1) Move the keeper to the reserves for a couple of matches (I've found the goalie's confidence is more important than any of the field players, YMMV)
2) Find out what's up with Larsson -- I'm thinking he may have scored an own goal late in the match to get a 1 rating.
3) Baby your team in team talks (you can do it, atta boy for a while). Hammering on them at this point will seal your doom.
4) You have a defensive hole somewhere -- no way Crewe should've gotten off 17 shots with near equal possession. Either your defensive tatics are off (conflicting orders??) or your back line is severely lacking in speed and you're playing them too far forward.
Overall, play very defensively for the next few matches and try to eek out some 1-0, 2-1 type wins -- or at the very least some draws -- to get your teams confidence back up.

When I saw the thread title, I was almost certain this topic would somehow involve home renovation/remodeling.
So sayeth the man who just got a call from his wife describing how an electrician's helper just stepped from the attic through the ceiling in our new master bedroom ... dumping the debris on the brand new king bed ... while he was trying to find the solution to something they had fucked up earlier in the day ... even though what was fucked up was on the opposite side of the room from where they had been working ... which was fixing something they had fucked up on a previous task several weeks ago.
Well, I followed some advice from you guys and I think I've righted the ship. I now have 40 points in 30 games (15th in L1). Not great, but considering I spent a good part of the season dead last, I'll take it. Also, Crewe, the team that spanked me in the screenshot above has been in first place all season. Here is what happened when I got them on the return trip:
