Does anyone get this recorded call on their answering machine?

They have been calling me every day with this recorded message and a phone # to call. So far I've been able to track the phone # down to a collection agency that tries to rip people off.

If I call the number it's the voice of a woman asking for a name and number to be left on voicemail.

From my process of thought in my mind, they leave the message on your phone hoping you call them and leave your information. So then they can start to fuck you over.

The number they leave is 866-350-8346.

Anyone know anything about this phishing scheme and how to stop it?

866 numbers can be toll numbers, you'll probably have charges ranging from 5 to 10 bucks per call for calling that number back.

866 numbers are toll-free. Only.

Per the FCC

"Toll-Free Codes - 800, 888, 877, 866, …

Today, there are four toll-free codes: 800, 888, 877, and 866. Although 800, 888, 877, and 866 are all toll-free codes, they are not interchangeable. 1-800-234-5678 is not the same as 1-888-234-5678. Calls to each toll-free number are routed to a particular local telephone number. "

I've contacted both the FCC and FBI.

888 and 866 numbers used to carry toll calls, I was unaware that had changed, thanks for the update!
