Just wanted to let you fans of this term know that it was used tonight in "Brothers and Sisters," some new show on ABC.

Kids, asshat has been around long before this board so let's not pretend they're stealing something from us.

"Asshat" has already "Jumped the Shark" on this board, much like the expressions "Jumped the shark," "throw under the bus," and "drink the kool-aid."

I'm frequently annoyed by the recent flood of "it is what it is". Isn't that rather obvious and pointless?

I don't see why people hate this one so much. We use a lot of expressions or cliches that make very little literal sense or the origins of which we don't even know for sure. I think "it is what it is" is a pretty good expression for saying a number of things:

"you're really overthinking this"
"yes, i realzie this is fucking bullshit but we have to do what the bosses tell us"
and on and on and on

I love it. it's multi-faceted.

There is a difference between a phrase that has no literal meaning and one that has no meaning at all. It seems like the answer to give when someone asks you something and you have no idea how to respond. Actually, it sounds like an answer that John Madden would give to a question.
