My father-in-law is a big gambler. He's started asking me what I think about every football game that he's going to bet. The only team I follow pretty closely is Denver, so when he asked me about the game tonight between Atlanta and New Orleans I was at a loss. A lot of times he makes a bet based on what I say, so I'm actually starting to feel some pressure about this.

That said, I'm also intrigued about maybe placing a bet or two myself. So that leads to my two-part question for wise people here at FOFC:

1. If you gamble on the NFL or on NCAA football, what site do you use?

2. Where do you go for information, stats, and analysis of pro and college football games?

Why give him advice about the game if you don't follow either team closely? Seems like you are just setting yourself up for his ire.

Good question. He doesn't speak English very well. My wife is Vietnamese so he usually asks me through her. I tell her that I don't know much about either team, but she still presses me for an answer. She would like me to be closer to her father, but since neither one of us understands the other very well we don't talk much. I think she sees this as a way for us to bond a bit. I guess I should talk to her and let her know that it makes me uncomfortable to give her Dad advice about teams that I'm pretty ignorant about…

I'm surprised he is an NFL fan and that he can follow the games if his English isn't that great. That is cool though. Does he understand the game that well? Maybe you could try to explain the rules and strategy more to him to try and bond and help him make better gambling decisions on his own. American Football is a scarce commodity in SE Asia.

To be honest I'm not sure how well he understands the game. I know he loves watching football and betting on it, but I have no idea if he understands what offsides is or the west coast offense. They've been in American now for over 20 years so I think he understands english a lot better than he speaks it.

Ugh, no. I told him if I had to bet I'd take the Falcons and the under.
