View Full Version : To The Post Count Nazis In This Forum

Before I begin rant, let me say this. I don't give a flyin rats' butt about post counts. SkyDog could put me at 1 (or 0, I guess) for all I care. I don't measure my worth here in post counts, nor do I use my measure here at FOFC as something to be counted for (or against) me as my measure as a man. Nor am I calling anyone out, nor do I want to know anyone who complains about WW post counts. I just don't care about any of that.
[rant]
I find it absolutely disgusting that there is a group of individuals on this board that are so lacking in self-esteem, so pathetic in their attitudes, so petty in their complaints, and so basically lacking in anything amounting to a sack, that they would complain to a mod about post counts from WW games.
Are you kidding me? This is how you measure your worth? On an Internet forum board? Post counts? This really, honest to God matters to you so much, that you have to run with your panties in a bunch to a moderator and complain about the "excessive posts" of those who play WW games?
You are pathetic. You need to find a new way to place value in your life and what you do. If you have so little in your real life, that a number by your name in an Internet forum matters so much, you need to go out and find the life you are missing. You are only given one, and you're pissing it away pecking at a keyboard and investing all of your self-worth into it.
Some of you need to take a long look in the mirror and try to remember what's really important. And I assure you, your ISP does not provide you with anything truly important.
I have chosen to spend some of my free time here at FOFC, but I do that knowing I live a full life outside of it, and I put no weight in petty things like post counts, but on the quality of posts alone (and even that is fleeting). Those of you complaining about post counts would do well to consider that four yourselves.

I still don't see why everyone is getting so worked up. The issue here is simple: Werewolves and men were not created equal.
If we allow werewolves to have equal rights (post counts, voting, marriage, etc.), it could lead to even worse things like gay marriage. Plus the Hot or Not voting would probably skew toward hairy chicks.

I agree that those complaining about WW players having inflated post counts are being trivial. i don't however think that WW players concerned about lost posts are trivial, as we all know (and SD has acknowledged) that post count is one of the things looked at to determine punishment severity and such.

Actually, while I agree with your general point, I don't think they matter as much as people make them out to be. SkyDog has said he looks at them mostly when it's a very new person (<500 posts, let's say, or a join date in the past few weeks) who is doing all sorts of controversial posting from the getgo.
Other than that, I don't think he cares much. He did say in the WW forum that he doesn't always know everyone, and uses the post count/join date to give him some guidance, but I would guess he has passing knowledge of most everyone who has passed 1-2K posts around here.

which leaves the only issue for the WW players to be the whole "well why are our posts not as valuable as parody threads or inane threadjacks." Which is a valid point, but *shrug* whatcha gonna do.

Actually, Bucc and I have both provided an explanation for why they might be considered differently. If you disagree with this view, feel free to post your rebuttal - so far, I haven't seen anyone attempt to argue against my point.
Just to be clear, I agree whole-heartedly with CR - anyone that bitched to SkyDog about "inflated" post counts for those that participate in WW threads really needs to get a life. Just like those that participate in WW threads that are bitching about losing post counts also need to get a life.
I will say that for consistency's sake, SkyDog should treat posts in the Hattrick forum exactly the same as he does those in the Werewolf forum - if posts in one forum don't count, they shouldn't count in the other. They either both count or both don't count, but there shouldn't be a difference between them IMO.

The point of my post, of course, was aimed at the first, but I wanted to say I agree completely with dawgfan as well on the bolded part. Getting all up about post counts isn't any better for those in WW threads bitching about it (although I find it more understandable, at least, since it was something taken from them without warning).

I agree for what little it's worth. I'm surprised this hadn't been mentioned before. The only reason not to do it is because, as someone who goes to the HT forum almost daily, there just aren't many posts there. I'm not sure anyone would notice if this happened. :)
And CR, for what it's worth, I completely agree with you. I can't believe this many people (non-WW and WW players alike) care about post counts. I thought the whole 'People lost posts!!!11!!1" joke came about because we thought it was such a laugher that people would think twice about their precious post counts. Maybe it's different for others, but people gain my respect by making thoughtful or funny or interesting or helpful posts. The number next to a name is no more than a curiosity.

This is pretty much all that matters. People who bitched need to get a life, and people who are bitching need to get a life. I still think dumping them altogether is the way to go. Or maybe just have them display if you look at the individual's profile, instead of having it show up next to each post.

As I said in another thread, we're mostly men here. To some, post counts are a measure of their manhood (one of the few things that you can quantify on FOFC). Jealousy of post counts and bitching of posts not being counted both fall into the same boat as you said above.

Oh, that's obviously of the utmost importance and shouldn't be moved!
The issue with WW getting moved is that the influx of new players will die now that it's it's own forum, same thing happened with Hatrrick when it got moved.

The ironic thing here is that everyone I've seen bitching about this from the WW community posts enough in the General Discussion board that I'm familiar with them, and you all still have post counts in the thousands. I really doubt someone with 10,000 posts is going to get much of a benefit of the doubt vs. someone with 1,000. Maybe against someone with 100, sure.

Reporter: "Could you clear about your post count habits since we can't see you post count?"
Iverson: "If Coach tells you that I missed post count, then that's that. I may have missed one post count this year but if somebody says he missed one post count of all the post counts this year, then that's enough to get a whole lot started. I told Coach Brown that you don't have to give the people of Philadelphia a reason to think about trading me or anything like that. If you trade somebody, you trade them to make the team better...simple as that. I'm cool with that. I'm all about that. The people in Philadelphia deserve to have a winner. It's simple as that. It goes further than that.
Reporter: "So you and coach Brown got caught up on Saturday about post count?"
Iverson: "If I can't post count, I can't post count. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about post count. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about post count. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about post count, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about post count. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about post count man. How silly is that?
Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about post count. We're talking about post count man. (laughter from the media crowd) We're talking about post count. We're talking about post count. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about post count. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about post count right now. (more laughter)
Reporter: "But it's an issue that your coach continues to raise?"
Iverson: "Hey I hear you, it's funny to me to, hey it's strange to me too but we're talking about post count man, we're not even talking about the game, when it actually matters, we're talking about post count."
Reporter: "Is it possible that if you counted posts, not you but you would make your teammates better?"

Yes, I know it's funny when I'm trying to be the voice of reason.
First off, thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you keep track of what my ratio of Bitching about Skydog posts are.
Secondly, when I think something is screwed up, I'm gonna say something about it. When I'm wrong, I admit it. You can sit there and say what you want, but I'd rather point out when something's screwed up than just say "Oh, well, nothing we can do, so might as well just do nothing". NOTHING gets done that way.
Now, having said that, I also said in another post I have a tendency to fly off the handle over things, but recover pretty quickly. I'd like to think that when I do complain, I do so not to be difficult, but to effect a change in what I believe to be wrong. I honestly believe it to be wrong, but you note that after a certain point, when it's apparent that nothing WILL change, I'll let it go.
You want to compare me to other people, that's fine. I'm cool with being compared to FN, BOTH him and his wife seem to be levelheaded, decent folk. I believe they were mistreated by a small, vocal minority of people here.
By the way, what I said was correct: a small group of people who have the ear of Skydog (and no, I'm not saying its IHOF people ... I have no idea who they are), got him to decide to move an entire group of people to their own forum BECAUSE they were pissed off over post counts. This is after evidentally there had been a vote on the mod forum about both political and WW threads, and it was decided that neither needed its own forum.
If Skydog made a good decision, I make sure I say so too. I've done that in the past as well.
But, again, I appreciate your feedback on my posting tendencies.

Actually, no. I've had more than a few conversations with FN and his wife, some over what might be happening here, but mostly about Civ 4. I've not seen anything from either one of them to warrant the kind of grief he gets here.
Much in the same way that I believe the grief you people give jbmagic is not warranted either. Yeah, he has trouble with spelling, but so do alot of us.
It reminds me of high school. You find a weakness in someone, and exploit it for a cheap joke.

Nope. I might have had an username here, but I wasn't active. I was running/participating in a FOF league, and advertised, but I wasn't what you would call an active member.

I would actually be surprised if WVU would have found anything wrong with what FN's wife did on this board to get banned.

EDIT: I'm gonna assume it's political.

dola: someone at some point tried to send me links to some of her postings, but I didn't see anything. Someone else then said she deleted alot of the postings.

She was a troll-in-the-box. Disdain for her cut across every faction on this board. her out and out lunacy unified the board for a short while, in fact.

Ok, that's fine. I can only state what I've experienced.
btw, Subby: I read what you wrote before about my persona. Sorry you feel that way. Not trying to get on anyone's nerves here.

There's at least one thread she started that she deleted (and it was the one that got her in the most trouble). There might gave been more.
Why is that?

*shurg* Not necessarily political. You just seem to be a lot like FN and JonInMiddleGA, neither I think had a problem with her (FN for obvious reasons, tho....).

You might have been right, in many ways. My political views and other things can give the impression I'm, well, a bastard, and I can understand why someone might feel that way. I apologize if that's the impression I'm giving ... it's not intentional.

Mind you, I'm not apologizing for my views, just the way they're presented.
I'll give you an example: Dutch. He seems to be fairly conservative, but the way he presents those views are intelligent, and less combative than mine seems to be.
In any case, I'm working on it. :)

Actually, I'm mostly neutral on the subject.
I'm not crazy about the occasions when I'm misinterpreted because I haven't expressed something as well as I should have. I tend to get upset when I feel like I'm intentionally misinterpreted, but other than that I pretty much only concern myself with how I feel about, say, a comment I've made or something. How anybody else takes it is something I can't control nor do I typically worry about it for more than a split second (if that much).
All part of my "the rule of the 90" philosophy I suspect {shrug}
edit to add: Not to be confused with the Pareto principle or the 90/10 law of software engineering.

Best I could tell Pareto is 80/20 but there's another (related) rule of 90/10 for software engineering. Or at least that's what Wiki says ;)

It's topics like this that make me miss checking in every day. The high drama, political intrigue, and sexual tension between posters keeps me young.
Quik, would this thread be an instance of tautology?

subby, i didnt see what you posted but get the feeling it painted WVU in a rather negative light, and even without knowing what you said, i can tell you that you are mistaken...i have had a number of conversations with WVU in the past few months by email, pm, and on the boards, and my every impression is that he is a hell of a nice guy, and very passionate about what he is doing or saying, which is possibly why you found him to be dislikable....i would just like to drop in my .02 regarding him, since i have conversed with him a bit more than others seem to have.

why dont you keep your fantasies about tom brady to yourself.:D
who the hell are you?
you only have 272 posts, get to 2000 and then you may be considered important enough to give your opinion
I'm torn. Should I go with the non-confrontational "LOL"?
The submissive "Well, I was just kidding, but you're right, maybe I should wait til I've been around longer before weighing in on important FOFC business. Sorry."?
The chock-full-of-relevance "VOTE LATHUM"?
Nah, I'll just go with "Fucking elitist."
;) :D
I tought there was a rule on using different user names?
Gold.
I just spit Mountain Dew across my office from laughing so hard.
Extra points for timing and visual effect.
Sorry for the carpet-bomb posting, I'm trying to get to 2000 like Mr. Lathum suggested.
