I just got a Sony SXRD and was trying to hook it up to my receiver to enjoy my speaker sound while watching plain ole TV. I thought I was doing it right by getting a fiber optics cable and running it from my TV "Digital Out (Optical)" input to my receiver "Optical TV/DSS" input. (In other words, this is what the Best Buy dude told me to do.) But no dice. I don't get any sound from my speakers when I turn my receiver to TV/DSS. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

What type of cable/satellite box are you using?

The digital optical cable goes from the cable box/satellite receiver to the AV receiver. Then run the video cable from the cable box to the TV. I think the Best Buy dude's answer was to use the TV's speakers.

Or if you have a cable/sat box that supports HDMI, just hook up the HDMI cable from your box to the TV. HDMI looks great on the SXRD (it's also what I have.) However, for surround sound like Henry said, you should be connecting the optical cable from the cable box/sat receiver to the AV receiver.

You might also need to do something with the "Source". It might default to analog for the video source, and you'll need to tell the receiver to use the digital input.

Also, once you hook it up, some cable/sat boxes need to have their settings changed to broadcast in Dolby or whatever surround sound setting you want to use.

Once again the FOFC community comes through for me. Yep, just had to change it from TV-to-receiver to Cable-to-receiver and then change the selector on my receiver to Digital.

Thanks again! This forum has actually become my first resource for just about any common issue I can't figure out.
