View Full Version : Coffee Question

All sizes and flavors of fresh brewed coffee cost the same amount where I am currently working. Assume that the coffee in question is slightly above average. It's not Tim Horton's, but it is better than the coffee they serve you in prison.

Which size do you buy?

Um.

How is this even a QUESTION.

Well, it depends on the context of the purchase (time of day, work/weekend, road trip, etc.), but my initial response is Large. Or Grande or whatever the hell the proper term is.

Um.

How is this even a QUESTION.

You'd be shocked how many people still opt for the small.

I always ask for a large coffee. Though I usually brew my own and drink it at home before heading into work. I use the same mug (a large, plastic "1997 Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup Champions" mug with a lid and all) every morning. It's big. At least 20 oz. I've actually taken this mug with me on extended trips.

I went to a Carribou Coffee a couple of weeks ago and got a large "Depth Charge" which is a large coffee with a shot of espresso (I think is called a "Red Eye" at Starbucks). In any event, oh my... It was a lot of caffeine. I was buzzing all day long. Too much for your typical weekday, but such power could very well come into use one day.

I'm an addict :(.

I went with 20 oz. because my travel mug is 20 oz. and I usually fill it each morning (I make my own coffee).

If it's not Tim Horton's, I'll get my caffeine elsewhere.

Seriously...I haven't had coffee since I moved down here 4 months ago. Diet Coke is my friend.

(I voted "Large" though.)

I drink coffee from the moment I get up until the moment I go to bed. I rarely buy coffee (by the cup), though.

When I first read this, I thought you meant what size bag of cofee do you purchase, not what size cup.

I answered without fully reading the question. I always buy a large, but if it were the same price, I'd supersize.

In that case, baby Jesus better get the water works ready because I'm about to drink a very large cup of coffee! And it's not decaf either!!

Drinking decaf is like getting the clap off a toilet seat.

I rarely buy coffee, prefering to brew my own delicious java at home (vanilla almond... mmmmm) What I don't understand is how my coffee maker doesn't seem to be in synch with real measurements. I put in two cups of water and it will register four cups!

Machine Hot chocolate and fake hot cappucino flavored drinks also cost the same price as coffee. If you want some hot chocolate, you gotta opt for the big ass size.

Seems like a fair place to raise my pet peeve with coffee...

Are there really people who want decaffeinated coffee and order "coffee" instead?

To me, there are two products -- coffee, and the toothless stuff. When I'm in a fuckin' diner, it's 3:30 in the morning and my eyes are a particular shade of bloodshot red... and I tell big-haired Alice that I'm wantin' some coffee... I don't need a follow-up opportunity to clarify that what I want is actual coffee, as opposed to decaf.

I know, I know, better safe than sorry... but you'd think that after asking 100 times "did you want regular or decaf?" and having 100 answers all the same, that she'd eventually figure it out. But no... obviously not. I don't even see any need for the term "regular" to be involved... there's coffee, and there's decaf.

I assume the real fault here lies with the sliver of the population who actually get talked down from their original request... they want coffee, they order coffee, and then when re-asked whether they really mean it, they hear their doctor's voide echoing or something and change their minds and change their order to decaf. These people are really to blame, I reckon.

I don't like wasting stuff, and try to be aware of it. So if I really only wanted a small coffee, and figured that there was a 95% chance that I'd just end up throwing out 1/2 of the large, then I would get a small.

Of course, I would have no problem getting the mega-colossal-hyper-gulp size if I thought that I would drink it all.

I was going to say decaf is like going to church...and then leaving just
before communion--what's the point?

Also curious about stevew's experience with prison coffee...

I somehow managed to go straight from about 6 cans of Dew a day to Diet frickin' Rite ... that lasted about two weeks, then I couldn't stand not having caffeine. I've now settled on Diet Pepsi.

But still, the obvious answer to this question is extra large...

I buy beans at Costco - two and a half pounds of french roast (they roast them on site) for about $9. I have a Melitta Grind and Brew (http://www.kitchenemporium.com/cgi-bin/kitchen/prod/16slmemb1.html) coffee maker. Currently I am using the 8 cups of water to 15 tablespoons of beans ratio.

When I started drinking coffee as a teen I would load up with cream and sugar. I am proud to say that I am down to one splenda packet now and will occasionally take it with nothing.

At Starbucks, I take a venti redeye when I am not buying a stupid yuppy triple grande two pump mocha.

Damn, and I thought I was doing good with my one (followed up with Diet Pepsi at home). No wonder I'm behind with scripts.
