I guess I'm late to my own thread, but anyway, I think pedophilia is disgusting and do not condone anyone partaking using such a mental/pychological disease as an excuse to harm children. I hope the Republican congressman (from wherever the fuck he comes from) named Foley gets what's coming to him and the teenage boy that was harmed by this idiot gets some sort of justice.
And to anyone thinking I would defend such a piece a shit simply because he is a Republican has taken their political hackery a bit too far, in my opinion.

fwiw, I think this was more an attack on Fox News which people believe to be "Dutch's beloved Fox News" than it was on the Republicans or your personal political/moral beliefs.

I understand. I definately wanted to make clear everybody was on the same page. That I wasn't nor would I be defending Foley. The thread is entitled "Ping: Dutch..." with a picture of Foley on the first frame? Just wanted to make that cyrstal clear. Obviously, this is a very emotionally-charged story that will enrage many people, myself included.
As for the Fox News bias, I've always said it's bias was right-leaning. As for this error? I think errors are made in this quick 24/7 news reporting. Not just on Fox News, but on the left-leaning TV outlets as well, obviously. If I'm wrong about that, let me know.
Anyway, apparently the error has been corrected. The front page of foxnews.com is reporting that Foley is indeed a Republican. I haven't watched Fox News in weeks, so I'm not sure about the live coverage.
WASHINGTON — House Speaker Dennis Hastert, battered by charges that his office knew about misconduct by former Rep. Mark Foley more than three years ago, went on the offensive Thursday, trying to rally the Republican Party whose ranks have been demoralized by the growing scandal.
"The buck stops here," Hastert said on FOX News Talk's Brian & the Judge Show, repeating a phrase made famous by President Harry Truman. "What I want to do is turn this around and fight. ... We need to get this behind us," he said.
But internal polling data from a prominent GOP pollster shows that House Republican candidates will suffer massive losses in support if Hastert remains speaker until Election Day. A GOP source briefed on the polling data told FOX News that the data suggests House Republican losses could be catastrophic if Hastert's speakership continues.
Hastert has been under the gun since news broke last week that his office knew Foley was sending inappropriate e-mails to teenage male pages, and that Hastert only gave Foley a warning to stop.

fwiw, i didn't think it was all that sinister because it's not like Fox News thinks they're going to convicne a bunch of viewers that Foley is indeed a Democrat from one interview, probably shown once with a "D" next to his name.
I chalked it up to a relatively funny joke (that wasn't trying to make any serious point) to take a friendly jab at you... *shrug*.. YMMV

Fun part about this - OReilly's show is taped in advance, so its not like a live error. and Fox hasn't mentioned this "mistake" since, which isn't so surprising.

Another tidbit from Olbermann was that when they finally removed the D-FL from the reairings of the O'Reilly show, they didn't replace it with a graphic that said R-FL. Instead, they removed the graphic altogether so there was no reference to party.

Ugh. That almost seems too subtle to be an honest mistake. Tho I'm sure if asked they'd say it would take too much work to change the graphic (tho it takes a few seconds)

This is also not the first time Fox has labelled an embattled Republican (embattled for negative reasons) as a Democrat. Mistakes will happen, yes, but they've had a lot of mistakes.

There is some info out there that Dems knew about these emails, so that doesn't seem strange, but in the context of "to preserve seat" seems to be obviously referring to Republicans. Good God.

It also begins with "Reid:" - isn't that Harry Reid they are attributing the statement to? If so, it is even more bizarre.

I think you may be right, then again I think it is pretty ridiculous to think that Fox would pull such a shenanigan(I have no idea how to spell that) in defense of Foley. Or for that matter to attempt to smear the Democrats by association.
What I asked when I saw this a couple of days ago was "How long did they leave it like that?". The answer was that it was shown during a live show, and that eventhough it was corrected during broadcast, that show was re-run three times over a seven hour period.
In other words, I'm hoping the mocking of Fox over this issue is tongue in cheek. Otherwise I fear you are all morons.

Then again I could be wrong and Fox is participating in a campaign to retain the house for the Republicans. That, or photoshop runs amok.

Yes, pretty toungue in cheek from me.
But with that being said, I am astounded by Fox News' continuing sloppiness. I see why they do it--for some reason, even though they have been around for a decade now (and are an established strong ratings performer), they seem to still have this "new kid on the block" mentality where they have this relentless need to scoop everyone else. They have a tendency to just run with things, and it continues to get them in trouble...

Just to quibble. At least according to Olbermann, the graphic was aired during the O'Reilly show. The O'Reilly show is not live and was taped earlier in the day. The O'Reilly show was reaired with the graphic 2 or 3 more times. After that, it was removed and no graphic replaced it. There was no correction or acknowledgement of the mistake. At least, that's according to Olbermann.
I think this sort of thing happens with Fox a fair amount of the time. I don't think it is the decision of O'Reilly or someone else higher up. I think it is just someone at the lower levels having fun with the graphics. In a culture that encourages a little left-wing bashing (see Outfoxed documentary interviews with former fox executives and anchors (http://www.outfoxed.org/Clips.php) for examples), this sort of thing goes on. It isn't some grand conspiracy, just part of a news network with an ideological agenda.
Most of the time, I think its funny. The fact that it keeps happening makes it a little less funny, IMO.

Ahh, I was told that they corrected the problem during the show, but the original scene was left intact for replays. Perhaps corrected during the show meant that future shots of Foley went without a graphic.
