Looking for a little advice here: I've recently changed broadband supplier and to say their service is less than stellar would be an understatement.

Half of the web is apparently unavailable to me (and many others from a couple of forums I have been able to look at), such as any msn site, ebay, a couple of internet banking sites I use, sigames (with FM coming up as well - not good!), etc... Fortunately FOFC is one I can access.

If the forums are to be believed, the problem is that a large batch of IP addresses were previously not authorised/recognised, have now been allocated to Sky broadband, but are still not recognised by a number of websites.

My IP is in the group listed as being in this new batch, and it seems to make sense: the sites I can visit are generally very fast, and the ones I can't I just get the 'Cannot find server' headed screen saying 'The page cannot be displayed' - (something to do with bogon codes apparently?)

However, none of the support staff from the ISP has even mentioned this as a possibility, and always work through potential problems at my end, I assume as they work through a script. This is depsite the fact I had the same problem on my laptop (which independently crashed and burned) and the new desktop I have just received to replace it.

So, to my question: if the problem is as stated on the forums, how big a task is it for Sky to advise sites/servers these IP addresses are valid, which I assume would then allow me and others to freely surf?

If this is a simple task, I'll wait, as the service is cheap and fast on the sites I can see . If it could take months, I'll have to have a rethink....

It could take months. Sounds like the IP range was blacklisted at some time, probably belonged to spammers, and Sky bought them when they came back on the market. These things normally take forever to get cleared, so I wouldn't even bother. Normally the cheaper services do this, as they're smaller outfits.

I was afraid that might be the case :(. And I guess there's not a lot I can do about it?
