Alternate History of Baseball
Interested in reshaping Baseball History? Would you like to brag to your buddies that Walter Johnson won 300 games for your team? Are you a disgrunteld Brooklyn Dodger fan who would love to tell Walter O'Malley where to go? Then join us for the Alternate History of Baseball!
The AHOB will start with the formation of the American League in 1901. The league takes the bold step of starting with a dispersal draft. Start your century dynasty by drafting the likes of Cy Young, Nap Lajoie, Christy Mathewson, Ed Delahanty, and many others.
Tentative Rules:
How many teams?
Ideally 16 but would start with as little as 12.
Does my team have to stay in a real city?
You may place your franchise in any city that has had a Big 4 franchise. You want to start in Sacremento? Go ahead. Real MLB nicknames apply. No Chicago Noseblowers.
Free Agency?
Yes.
Salary Cap?
Yes along with a salary minimum. A soft cap, you will be encouraged to sign your own players that either you grew in your farm system or have been on your roster for more than five years and been in the league for ten. Teams must spend at least 75 percent of the previous seasons revenue.
Roster Size?
If the game can do it, 30 for the year would be ideal. If not, your best 25. September call ups would be negotible, but post season rosters would be limited to players called up before August 31.
Draft?
Dispersal to start. Ammy draft would start with 5 rounds. Expansion drafts would consist of established teams protecting 10 position and 7 pitchers while pulling back a player for any player drafted.
Expansion?
Not more than 16 teams until the league owners decide that it would be in their best interest.
Real Players?
Yup.
Format?
154 game seasons. Simmed one week at a time every Monday and Thursday. Ideally we have enough teams for two rounds of playoffs.
Structure?
Two leagues, hopefully two divisions. No Interleague to start.
DH?
NEVER.
Free Agent Claims?
First come, first serve in season through either AIM or Yahoo Messenger. If you can't do that, then pm's either at .400 or FOFC will work.
Stadiums?
Shoot me over whatever dimensions you want within these guidelines, foullines no shorter than 290 and no deeper than 350, alleys no shorter than 360, center field no shallower than 400. Stadiums should be between 25 and 45 thousand to start and you can only change stadiums or cities with 3/4 vote of the league. Variables of 2b, 3b, hr, lha, and rha, should be between 90-110 of league averages.
House Rules?
Ideally, 4 man rotations.
Live drafts if possible.
Live play by play of all-star and playoffs if possible.
Would like to have 3 people run the league, a Commish(me) and two league presidents.
You must own OOTP4, the most recent patch.
You must have a way to contact me online, either AIM or Yahoo. If you can't do that then we can set up a pm system either at .400 or over at FOFC.
Upgrade to OOTPv5?
At some point. First of all, everybody will have to own it. Then we can decide as a league when to switch over.
Where will stats be?
I do have webspace available. Weekly reports will be uploaded, but not individual player reports. If I do this on a freeserver, it's too much info and my ftp will time out. We maybe lucky enough to squeeze out a message board.
To sign up: PM me here or over at .400 (vtbub) or message me at vtbub03 at AIM or vtbubbah4 at Yahoo. Tell me your screen name over at FOFC and I'll ask you to name your team, how to contact you, and what would be the best times that you could join for live activities for draft.
If I missed anything, please let me know. If there is enough interest, I'll draw up a formal rulesheet then.
Hope to see you soon
