Thanks to another site for this link... I can only hope this translates into a truely next gen baseball game as I know I'll be trying to avoid the ps3 when MLB The Show comes out for it. :)
Ben Brinkman, the lead gameplay designer from EA's MVP series has jumped teams, signing with Kush Games to help re-create, re-shape, and re-think the MLB (http://sports.ign.com/articles/737/737995p1.html#) 2K franchise, beginning with 2K7.
We'll see...

Look at 2K7 basketball, that's why people love it, it plays a real good game of basketball. Same with hockey. That's what we're trying to do. Those are our models. We're looking at those and seeing what they do, and it's simple stuff, play a good game of baseball.
That's the kind of thing I like to hear.

What's up with the backround sound?!
I want to love console baseball games but for some reason I can never get in to them...
MizzouRah do you know if the "career rpg" mode has been enhanced? That would be the best selling point for me.

Well, I never played it as I didn't have a ps2...I wish that could have been a multi-platform game.
Found what i was looking for, a preview of how will be the career mode in MLB07.

The best addition to this mode is the now you only control your player on defense instead of the whole team. This is huge for me, in 06 i just fast simmed until my next at bat as I didn't want to control my full team but this year i'll play also in defense. The only thing that dosn't sound so good is that you only play in defense when a ball is going your direction, so when the game loads you as defender, you know already that the ball is going to you. While not perrect I'm sure I'll enjoy playing defense with only my player.
Too bad this won't be in the 360 as I'm not sure how will I enjoy it in my old ps2 with the outdated graphics.

Too bad the stupids at 2K don't want to release this game outside USA and ever worse, they make it region coded so we Europeans can't even buy it imported.
It seems that they enjoy loosing money, take a look at their official forums at all the Europeans asking them to release their baseball game and College Hoops region free so we can buy them imported as it's not for sale here.

I could understand their policy for games like NBA2k7 that are released both in USA and Europe as probably they make different deals with the distribution channel and the European distributors won't like us Europeans importing the game from USA skipping them. But for games like MLB and College Hoops that are not released in Europe, what do they lose making them region free so we can buy them imported? It's not that we are stealing sales to the European distributors as they don't bring here the games anyway. In fact it's the opposite, letting us to import the games, they are spreading their games here without any distribution cost and maybe open the future market for those distributors to end bringing here all the games.

I'm probably going to end up passing on this one. 'The Show' for PS3 is looking absolutely incredible and it was a great game last year.
I saw a European poster that was unhappy about the region issues on the 360. That's one of the reasons they expect the PS3 to sell well in Europe. No region coding allows for American sports games in Europe and great European soccer games in America. I'm a big sports gamer, so I'm really excited about that.

And that is exactly why I might end selling my Xbox360 even when i love it and will purchase a PS3 once is out in Spain (end of March), just because it's region free and I'll be able to import and play USA games like "the show" or "college hoops".

Here's the factsheet info. I'll try to track down some pics, though it may be tough to get to some sites here at work.......
As you may have heard, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) officially announced this week that MLB 07 The Show™ will be available in Spring 2007, on the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™).
Already widely considered the most authentic baseball simulation available, the franchise now introduces the all-new Road to The Show mode, enabling gamers to play both offense and defense from the created player’s perspective. Providing an even more realistic experience from the mound, the all-new New Pitch Command System (PCS) delivers unsurpassed strategy to pitch selection, as a pitcher’s “pitch comfort” will be predetermined based on a best to worst pitch scenario. It is up the gamer to decide if he/she should try to “work on a pitch” or just go with what is working. Additionally, with the Adaptive Pitching Intelligence (API) feature, catchers will call the game based on the individual strengths and weaknesses of each pitcher as well as analyze tendencies of batters. Gamers will now have the ability to either trust the pitches called by the catcher or shake them off.
As more and more gamers are seeking quality online competition and content, MLB 07 The Show adds to its already robust online feature set and delivers Online League Play, which offers the ability to set up customizable leagues with up to 30 teams, complete with full stat tracking, point benefits and rewards. Additionally, the My Sliders feature allows users to create their perfect game settings and upload them to the MLB 07 The Show server for others to try out.
Due to hit stores this spring as the only officially licensed first party videogame exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system, PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, MLB 07 The Show is set to deliver an unrivaled experience for baseball fans.
Road to The Show – Along with Classic Career Mode, MLB 07 The Show introduces an innovative new option. Road to The Show enables gamers to play offense and defense from the created player’s perspective for they plays in which they are involved. The game will automatically fast forward to the next user-integrated sequence with some events occasionally triggering situational goals form coaches or managers.
Always Online – With the PS3, players will have the option to be “Always Online” allowing elements such as MLB Score Ticker, Instant Messaging, Buddy Invites and more to occur at any point. Gamers could be playing an exhibition game and receive an message from a buddy to get into a different game room and go head-to-head. No scoring update in the MLB will be missed, as the MLB.com powered ticker can be seen during any off or online game.
Online League Play – MLB 07 The Show provides today’s sports fanatics with the ability to set up leagues with anywhere from 6-30 teams with full stat tracking, point benefits and rewards. Gamers can customize the league including choosing players, teams, length of schedule and much more. (Note: There are no cross platform leagues available.)
Online News Service / MLB.com Headline News – Sports fanatics can receive all the current happenings in sports today. Information will be updated a few times each hour with news, trades and events from 31 different feeds, each containing 25 unique items. Users can select general MLB® headlines or updates from all 30 teams instantly. New for 07, MLB 07 The Show offers an enhanced Live MLB Ticker, which shows live status of all MLB games going on around the league – with updates several times a minute. This new view will be complete with who is on base, pitching, batting, on-deck and full inning-by-inning box scores.
Rivalry Mode – For those with a competitive nature, Rivalry Mode allows baseball fans to set up and maintain multi-game rivalries between multiple gamers or versus the Artificial Intelligence (AI), and keeps track of the stats throughout the rivalry.
Franchise Mode – Extending the experience of running a team, performance and player morale are tracked on virtually every level – salary, playing time, batting slot, team performance, and much more.
Career Mode – The Career Spotlight underscores all of the accomplishments and failures during a career and showcases them in the limelight. Gamers still need to call the shots, but now the ramifications of actions are documented.
Season Mode – Grind out the162 game season and deal with day-to-day match-ups, refining the lineup and play for the championship just like the pros.
All-Star Game – Lets gamers take the virtual road trip to San Francisco early to see who prevails for home field advantage in the 2007 Fall Classic.
Adaptive Pitching Intelligence (API) – Catchers will call the game based on individual strengths and weaknesses of each pitcher and analyze tendencies of batters. Gamers will have the ability to trust the pitches called by the catcher or shake them off. (The catcher’s recommendations are based off of thousands of actual MLB® stats.)
Pitch Command System (PCS) – Delivering unsurpassed authenticity and strategy to pitch selection, a pitcher’s “pitch comfort” will be predetermined based on a best to worst pitch scenario. It’s up the gamer to decide if they should try to “work on a pitch” or just go with what’s working. The more a player works on a pitch, the better it becomes, and the more a gamer neglects a pitch, the harder it becomes to work the zone.
KEY FEATURES
PlayMaker Fielding – The fielding interface brings the player attributes together with the user’s skill level. With the Fielding Zone Marker, the fielder’s fielding attribute rating will determine the size of the zone that surrounds the ball and its eventual landing location. With highly ranked fielders, the ball marker will be displayed sooner and smaller, making it easier to judge fly balls.
Multi-Branch Fielding – Branch Point Technology goes to a new level as gamers you can now take full control of fielders and break out of any animation in the process. Change a fielding decision and branch out of any animation after the first branch point. With Branch Point Technology, MLB 07 The Show provides unbelievably smooth, fluid transitions for seamless double plays and relays.
Release Point Pitching – Taking video game pitching to a whole new level, gamers must utilize a timing mechanism to learn and realize each pitchers pace and release point, which varies from pitcher to pitcher.
Pitching Confidence Meter – The ultimate pitcher/batter interface returns. Additionally, Pitcher Confidence plays a role in a gamer’s ability to hit release points in the all-new pitch meter, while frequency of mistakes will impact the confidence level of a gamer’s hurler, making it more difficult to paint the corners of the strike zone.
Guess Pitch – Baseball fans can attempt to master the ability to knock one out or hit the grounder to advance the runner by checking the pitch history and correctly guessing which pitch and the location that the pitcher will throw next. If the correct pitch is selected, the power attribute is increased in attempts to leave the yard in a hurry.
Pitch Grips – Gamers will be able to detail the different pitch grips and arm angles that a pitcher has when throwing each pitch. Showing these details in Replay Mode shows what to look for in release point and pitch arm angle from 15 different pitches.
40-Man Roster – Provides the ability to take full control of a team’s roster and manage all 40 players for each and every game.
My Sliders (Up/Downloadable) – The My Sliders option gives users the ability to create their perfect game settings offline by adjusting game sliders. Gamers can then save these adjustments to memory and, when online, upload to them to the MLB 07 The Show server for other users to try and let the online community be the judge on finding the perfect game.
MLB® Player Motion Captures – MLB 07 The Show features dozens of professional athletes including David Wright, David Ortiz, Eric Chavez, Roger Clemens, Shawn Green, Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Tim Hudson, Darryl Hamilton, Troy Percival, Brett Tomko, Mo Vaughn and more.
Thousands of Personalized Animations – Authenticity: featuring personalized player animations for everything from walk-ups, rituals, stances and swings and even emotions.
New Umpire Personalities – Providing even more realism to the diamond, MLB 07 The Show features umpires with unique tendencies and animations. Each umpire will have his own definition of the strike zone, and it’s up to the gamer to figure out if the umpire is calling the zone high, low, or giving the corners.
Managers / Coaches – MLB® managers and coaches will be on the field calling the shots.
KEY FEATURES
MLB Authenticity, Subtleties & Nuances – MLB 07 The Show features drag bunts, wild pitches, broken bats, check swings, off-line throws and much more.
Crowd Interaction – Gamers will see a vast array of new ambient elements including: fans coming, going and reaching for foul balls, vendors, 7th inning stretch, the wave, standing ovations and much, much more. These new subtleties make MLB 07 The Show truly feel like a day at the ballpark.
Wind Effects – MLB 07 The Show features a wind display showing wind speed and direction. Depending upon the severity of the wind, the ball will drift according to the speed and direction. Wind effects will force the player to take the proper route to the ball and make adjustments on the fly.
3-Man Booth & Progressive Commentary – Rex Hudler, Matt Vasgersian and Dave Campbell provide the most comprehensive commentary heard in any baseball videogame. MLB 07 The Show sets the bar high with the Progressive Commentary that changes as the user progresses throughout the game by adapting to current actions and situations.

Yesterday Gamespot posted a new summary giving impressions from a hands-on play session they had with the game. I love the graphics, but there are already a few things that concern me:
As the guys on the sports blog said - what's with the wind blowing the uniforms at 100mph in every shot?!
Why is the 2nd baseman running all-out to attempt a catch of a fly ball that eventually short hops the right-center wall?
Is it bad when the producer mentions that in working with having crowd-specific cheers one of the cheers he specifically speaks of is, "C'mon Jeter, get another double!"

There have been videos where the jerseys haven't been blowing at all, maybe they changed the weather settings to show that off.
I saw the videos with random fielders running all over trying to catch fly balls, I think it's more likely that those are user controlled players that don't know what they're doing.

From a poster at OS. MLB 2k7 for $29.99 + another $10 off if you use google checkout.
Some are saying it's for the Xbox (could be) as the platform says Xbox, but the title and picture of the game says, Xbox 360.
I might take a chance on this - it's like $26 if you use the google checkout option. I've seen it for $60 everywhere else.
Even if it's total garbage, EB games will probably give you $30 for it. :)

It definitly could be and might be, BUT the box on the page is the 360 version, no doubt. A poster from OS says his order says, MLB 2k7: 360.
I see the page is down now.

Why do they keep releasing their Baseball games region locked for Xbox360 when there is a good amount of fans from Europe, specially UK where baseball is followed with interest, asking for an European release or at least a region free release. 2k Sports is only punishing the 360 owners as the game is region free for the PS3 (all them are).

Per a new gamespot article, the game will officially be in stores on the 27th. Some good bands doing the soundtrack:
This season, 2K Sports is sticking with the indie music theme with selections from vets and new acts. The soundtrack, announced today, will include game soundtrack staples Wolfmother, buzz band Tapes 'n Tapes (who will also head up the 2K Sports Hit-n-Run tour), up-and-comers The M's, and established acts such as Nirvana, The Pixies, and The Stooges. The full soundtrack is listed below.
2K Sports also revealed that much like the glove of Athletics third baseman Eric Chavez, MLB 2K7 is golden. The game will be available on February 27 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. DS and Game Boy Advance versions will be released later this spring. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/majorleaguebaseball2k7/index.html).

Pro Evo Soccer 6 is the best soccer game ever for current gen, so realistic. The next gen version graphics are of course way better, but it seems that they were in a hurry to release it so they removed some features in the next gen release, like some editing options and the mode where you start with a crap team and need to signup players etc to make it competitive.
If you like to play with the default real teams, players etc you won't miss those features missed in the next gen version and the graphics are awesome.

I'm in the 12th inning of my first 'game.' One thing that needs to be toned down is guys robbing homers over the wall, I've hit two shots with Rolen now, one robbed by Shawn Green and another by Endy Chavez.
I like the lineup card when you hit the left bumper, looks handwritten like it would in real life. Tells you who is available, you can sub, pinch hit and warm pitchers up from this screen. Nice touch.
I beaned Floyd on purpose and Randolph came out to argue but neither he or Suppan got ejected.
I did injure Suppan going for a ground ball with Pujols and ran into him. Pujols' mannerisms are spot on.
Graphics are great on my 34" Widescreen HD WEGA. The sound is good, but I don't play sports games with announcers so I'll be turning those off.
The sliders are available in the demo, so if there's anything you don't like you can tweak the sliders to see if they work right or not. I noticed there are sliders for catcher, infielder, and outfielder arm strength now, those weren't there last year.
The fielding camera doesn't bother me, although I've read that people hate it. I turned off the option 'Keep Fielder In View' so maybe that has to do with it.
A lot of hit variety so far. I don't use the Swing Stick, as I like classic timing based hitting. But a good variety of grounders, deep fly balls, bloopers, hits to the gaps and the like. It seems like it's all dependent on location of the pitch and the timing of your swing, not just random hit locations.
I hate behind the pitcher cameras and I'm trying to find a way to pitch from the hitting view.
Beltran just made an amazing diving catch to rob me of what would have been a double to the gap by Encarnacion.
Wagner just intentionally walked Rolen (because he hit those 2 deep shots that were robbed his last 2 AB's?) after I hit a double with Edmonds. I then hit a ground rule double on the very next pitch with Yadier Molina to make it 2-1. Wagner then intentionally walked Miles to pitch to the 9th hitter. I ended up putting the side down in order in the bottom of the 13th to win 2-1.
The batter/pitcher interface is still my favorite since High Heat.
So, that's just random things I figured I would type up as I was playing, if you have any questions that can be answered in a 3 inning demo, let me know.

Started a new one right after using the Mets this time. Pitching with Chad Bradford, they brought in a pinch hitter for the pitcher who lined the ball right back at Bradford and nailed him right in the head. He went down immediately and was holding his head and now he's out of the game with a concussion.

I do really like the pitching interface where the catcher picks the pitches and then you can wave them off. For those who've played this series in the past, is there a rating given to catchers to determine how good they are at picking this stuff or is it simply a cosmetic thing?
Terps
02-26-2007, 06:44 PM
That's new for this year (pitchers calling every pitch), but there's a rating so for example Pudge Rodriguez will have a higher call game rating than say Paul Bako.

I hit a 2 run homer with David Wright in the bottom of the 8th in this past game I played to win 3-2.
I brought Wagner in in the 9th and on the last batter I got a strikeout but a passed ball and threw the batter out at 1st to end the game.

Wow. It just downloaded for me in under 30 minutes while I was watching the last Office episode. If possible, I'm going to try playing with auto fielding on (which is usually how I prefer to play baseball games.) I like how player ratings are done as letters rather than pure numbers (assuming not all B's perform the same.) I want to see players on auto fielding play differently based on ratings.

Terps, under "Control Settings" there is an option to change the pitching camera to behind the batter. That is also where the option is to switch the pitching interface, pitchpoint, and batting interface (I'm going with Classic Control.)

I can't find it in the demo, but I'm hoping to hear from one of you guys tomorrow that it is in the retail copy.

Yeah, I think I read in previews it's not there at all. But it will move your fielder towards the ball a bit if you don't move him as a bit of a auto assist.

Awesome.. This game has just been fun to play so far. I have played as both teams, and I have just had a blast. The biggest thing for me is that it feels like an actual playoff game. The way the announcers are calling the game, and my favorite part is the 'nerve' rating. I just brought Adam Wainwright into the game in the bottom of the 9th to close out the game and his pitching cursor is going all over the place. I can't control one bit where he will be throwing the ball. So I had to have a mound visit to somewhat settle him down and have a better chance at locating pitches. Like I said, it just feels like playoff baseball.

Yeah, I don't get that. That might be enough of a reason for me not to buy if it isn't in the retail version.

For those that are registered over on Operation Sports, there's a huge demo impressions thread and there is a Q&A thread for both the 360 and PS3 versions of 2 admins that have the game.

I do love the pitching interface (even though I suck at pitching.) The ability to see ratings, what percentage of each pitch you have thrown, and how the pitches break is very slick.
Edited to add: I'm not sure because I've only played as the Cardinals, but they nicely emulate Eckstein's weak arm (which just cost me a run.)

I'm not sure how willing you are to delve into franchise play, but I was wondering if even in exhibition play there is a varied attendance based on who you play and where you play?
I dont know about exhibition but its definetly varies in season. Opening day Camden Yards was sold out for me. In July when my o's were 7 games under .500 there was about 20,000 fans there. I love that part.
I've wanted that back in a baseball game for the longest time.<!-- / message -->

No auto fielding, but for some reason it hasn't been an issue for me. I turned the option to keep the fielder on the screen off and that has helped me.
The pitching interface might be the best I've played so far in my baseball gaming life, wow it's fun!
I like the "classic" hitting as I suck at the swing stick right now. I also love the commentating of the game as I'm so used to these two calling games.
So far, color me impressed. I REALLY want to play at Busch in the daytime to see the dynamic lighting. Graphics don't appear to be as good in this demo as I've watched on some of the HD videos, but I think it's that ugly park. :P
The pace of the game is perfect, imho. Overall - and this is only a 3 inning demo, it's better than I expected for the first year of Brinkman and 2k's plans to overhaul the game. Will DEFINITLY be picking up the retail version tomorrow.
Oh yeah, typical 2k presentation, which really immerses me into the game.

I'm going to give the demo another try tomorrow, but I think the lack of auto fielding might be a deal breaker for me. I've already given up an inside the park homer and a triple because of having trouble with the fielding/fielding camera. It's also hurting me in the infield, but not as much. It seems to be frustrating the mod on OS who is answering questions re: the retail version as well. If this game had auto fielding, I'd be going to pick it up tomorrow.

There's no doubt you'll see more fielding options nexy year, I just think they ran out of time as they concentrated on other things in year 1 of the Brinkman era.
I still have a ps2 and I know The Show is going to be another excellent game, but I'm going to get MLB for now and keep an open mind.
I really don't have much of an issue with fielding so far. Yes I've missed a fly ball last game, but I'm getting used to it (your fielder will start moving towards the ball).

So far, the show isn't getting glaring talk right now.. something about lag after hitting a ball and bad CPU decisions like not pinch hitting for a pitcher in the late innings while trailing. Same thing that bugged me in an overall stellar game.

Calling Walmart about video games is a complete waste of time, actually calling them about anything is a waste of time unless you have the UPC code and get a helpful associate that will grab a price gun and check if it's in stock. Most of the time they'll just glance at the game cabinet and if they don't see it then they don't have it.

dola,
Still torn about getting this tomorrow, I'll check out OS tomorrow to see if there are anymore retail impressions then make a decision. It's either this or Gears tomorrow, and right now I'm leaning towards Gears.
Like Eagles said, the lack of an auto-fielding option is hurting the chances I pick this up. I don't even remember the last time I played a baseball video game where this wasn't an option, I've never played the 2K games but I always remember this in MVP & Triple Play.

Just had another great game playing as the Cards vs. the Mets. Nothing much happened until after it was in extra innings, where I hit a solo HR with Pujols to make it 2-1 in the 11th. The Mets struck right back scraping together a few hits and a sac fly to tie it at 2.
Fast forward to the bottom of the 12th, with one out Jose Reyes TRIPLES. The very next batter Reyes breaks for home as the pitch is leaving my hand and LoDuca lays down a perfect bunt down the 1st base line, by the time it's fielded Reyes had already scored a few seconds prior.
Mets win 3-2.

Are you pressing the pitch button again after you release? It took me a game to figure out as well (via reading the tips), but once you release the pitch button that sets the power. You then need to press the pitch button again as the crosshairs snap back to the pitch location (which is hard for me to time.) If you don't press the button at all after release, you will either throw a meatball or a wild pitch.

If you hit the right or left thumbstick, you can shake off the catcher's call.
Ok, just put my xbox360 premium for sale, i'm sick of the region locks. I'll buy a PS3 to play this, College Hoops, NCAA Football and MLB The Show 07 plus future games that are not available to Europeans Xbox360 owners. I'll miss Live but anyway i'm more a solo than online player.

Wait a minute, that's the OOTP 2007 release date.
Make that March 24th then

I rented this one just to give it a try on the PS3. Really disappointed with the lack of auto-fielding. That's a deal breaker for me. Have to play other games to hold me over until The Show comes out.
