Okay, please don't make fun of me on this one. But when I get a PM it asks me if I want to view it, I say yes. Then it says something about wanting to open in a separate window and I click okay. However, the fricken message never appears anywhere unless I go to my profile and click private messages. This has been the very case on every board that uses this software. Am I doing something wrong here or does it just not do what I think it's going to do?

do you have some sort of pop-up blocker going? that could be the problem

Just hit cancel and it will open in the same window

If you're running a popup blocker, then simply hit cancel like Airhog said and it will take you there using the screen you are currently on (unfortunately you lose your place where you were viewing).
