We seem to be under a deluge lately, where do you stand on the question of post length?

That should be '22. Unless, of course, you ran the Irish out of town in the 23rd century.

Delete thread and start over!

It's not the length of the post that's importrant, it's the girth.

Your post is showing... And allow me to say that the length of your post is not that impressive...

When posts are really long, I just read the last word of each line.

I favor lengthy posts.

The issue of post length is one that has been on my mind lately. For the sake of clarity I will give you my feelings in the form of a novel.

Posts that are longer than a certain length are often skipped over by many readers. Sometimes it is a troublesome task to make your post adhere to the limits of the ADHD culture's attention span, but I feel it must be done in order to capture the optimal amount of readership. However, there are also times when your point is too important to abreviate. I have often encountered lengthy posts, the gist of which I already know. I am unstoppably compelled to skip reading these posts myself, since I feel that, already knowing the major points of the post, I would be wasting my time actually reading it. Sometimes, when I am reading threads on apollohoax.net or bautforum.com (where I spend a lot of my time reading the insane rantings of conspiracy theorists), I actually read these posts that are pages long and are coming from known whack-jobs. At the end of these reading sessions I am far closer to suicide than when I started reading. This is another point in favor of brevity. I mean, you wouldn't want me to go and commit suicide would you? Actually, I think some people would. I mean, I am usually a good guy to have around, but when it comes to my job I can be a real hard-ass. Some people, teenagers in this case, don't like to be made to work. I certainly make them work. I don't know if that's enough to hope I commit suicide, but I am not willing to take that chance, you know? It is my life we are talking about here. So, yeah, about post lengths. My backyard has pretty long posts, but privacy fences are usually apt to be tall. The posts go up a little taller than the top of the fence line in some yards, but not in mine. The top of the posts are just about flush with it. This makes for a nice, stream-lined look. Some might like the more decorative look of the occassional extra-long post, but I prefer the look of my fenceline, personally. Wait, I got distracted and confused there, I think. It's the other kind of post, right? Yeah, so, I find when posts are beyond a certain length my mind starts to wander when I'm reading them. So sometimes I just skip them. I mean, really. It can't be like some earth-shatteringly profound post coming from some donkey that doesn't know how to freaking indent, right? I mean have a little consideration for your audience. What is the average age of our audience here, 25? There are a lot of teenagers here. I mean, what are they going to look at, your poorly formatted rambling post or the latest X-BOX 360 flashy-dancing simulator game. I know what I would watch. I wonder if X-BOX 360 has any games that are, wink-wink, adult-oriented. The quality of graphics are pretty high on that thing, right? So are we into that level of detail, yet? I don't keep up with the kids' technology anymore. I used to be up on that stuff but then we started getting into all that ram and rom and cpu stuff and I'm lost. Maybe I should just stick to Nintendo. Some of those Final Fantasy sprites are kind of cute and you can use your imagination. Oh hey Jeopardy is on. Remember when it used to be just Alex Trebek and he didn't need anyone else to read the clues for him? Now they have some dude and some cute blonde. I admit sometimes I think about that blonde girl and me in the library with Alex Trebek is the librarian trying to make us be quiet. I don't think that's such an embarrassing fantasy. I mean, Alex probably likes to watch, but it IS a library after all and people are trying to study. So isn't jeopardy technically gambling? I think this might be illegal unless they are in one of the areas where gambling is legal. Oh wait, I think Trebek is Canadian so that is probably ok. I feel like one of those dumb Americans that thinks there is nothing else besides the USA. Have you seen that cartoony map of what Americans think the world looks like? It says HERE BE DRAGONS or something like that. I love stuff like that. I mean Americans are soooo stupid most of the time. Ok not all of them and I know generalizations are always wrong but you know what I'm saying, right? I mean people in Mexico probably aren't dumb like here. They know where, for example, Lebanon is on a map. I don't know if most Americans do. Maybe we should make that a priorty in school. Have a where is in the world is Lebanon class. Oh, hay guys my laptop battery is almost dead.

I'm fine with long posts if they utilize paragraphs correctly ;)...

What annoys me (and I try not to do, but do sometimes) is when people quote a really long post and don't chop it down. When quoting a long post you should just chop out the pertinent part that you are replying to.

Heh heh I was surprised there wasn't a Chief reference earlier in the thread (like in Post 1, for instance).
