As in one that will play DVDs that are normally playable only in specific regions?

If so, how much would one be?

I got mine for $5 on ebay with $7 shipping.

I am completely serious.

I bought an Apex AD-500A. It isn't the best brand that ever existed, but it does the trick very well.

There are instructions on how to update the firmware here: http://www.nerd-out.com/darrenk/index.htm

You will find the instructions there for updating many cheaper models there, but through a little research I found that the model I bought was pretty good and was very easy to upgrade the firmware.

The other good thing about the Apex is that it converts PAL to NTSC.

Also, if you are looking for a good region-free VHS player, Samsung sells their SV-5000W.

Or, you could unlock the DVD player you already have on this site: http://www.videohelp.com/. I did with mine years ago, to watch R1 DVDs. Not every model is supported, but give it a try. The section is "DVD Hacks".

Yeah, I would advise that you visit some AV forum, and they should have some good tutorials there for you. Sometimes even the cheaper 40 dollar DVD players can be unlocked rather easily.
