View Full Version : Reason 4,112 not to get an XBox 360

So my 360 is freezing on everything and getting the nice little ring of fire which means it is basically having a hardware failure. My buddy had the same thing and they exchanged it rather easily.

So I called MS and they had me repeat the steps that I had already done since they were listed on their website, which was basically cycle the power, take out the HD, make sure it is not too hot (wasn't even "warm")

This was all last Wednesday, so after about a half hour of barely intelligible conversation with some gal making 50 cents an hour she tells me they are going to replace it. But oh no, we have a problem the "system" is down and they can't do it today and can I call back tomorrow. they give me a ref # so at least I don't have to go through all the basic steps again.

Is it just me, or shouldn't the largest software company in the world have some redundancy and backup options so their system is never down? but I digress.

So I call back on Friday, still down

I call back today, still down.

utterly amazing. at this point I want to get this thing replaced and then it is straight to e-bay with it. I will stick with the old xbox and look for a PS3 early next year.

Conversely, Nintendo quickly took back my daughters broken DS despite the fact that it was not technically under warranty. They sent me one via UPS and all i had to do was ship the old one back. I'm quite impressed by them. I want a 360 too, I think I'll see if Santa loves me this year :)

MS = no backup server to handle customer issues? I would be PISSED!

Everytime I read about a 360 hardware failure, I'm glad that I bought mine from Costco.

Sorry for your problems though and hope it gets resolved quickly from this point on.

I wonder how much of that is tied to today's Live outage?

Today's Live outage was a scheduled outage. There were notices of it posted all over the internet last week.

For some reason, I am glad that I'm sticking with the X-Box. I only play sports games and it appears that the games on the 360 aren't that much better (and perheps more buggy) than the X-Box. Plus, the camera view on the NCAA07 X-Box 360 is something I'm not crazy on.

I love EA SPORTS NCAA 2007 on the XBOX360. I play it as much as I played MLB 2006:The Show.

Not to mention the fact that the $400 price tag and the price of games is not something I'm ready to shell out for. I'm cheap.

I try the demo out. TW seems very easy on the xbox 360.

Same here. I love my 360, and have been playing it more since I got it than I played my xbox the last two years I had that.

Do you have to comment on every person who wants to buy a game. Let them make the decision for themselves, stop fucking harping on people. It's tiresome.

I'm aware of that.

What I'm saying is, I wonder how much of MS' usual customer support network is tied into their Xbox Live servers.

Is it conceivable that taking one down for maintenance also had the effect of limiting the utility of the other?

I have a new theory here. There are people who cannot possibly get through written communication without committing at least one of the following infractions:

1) spelling errors
2) gross misuse of punctuation and/or capitalization
3) murder of the English language

Further, I theorize that as you move down that list, each item above is automatically included with the new offense.

Additionally, referring to any video game system increases the chances of this happening by at least 50%.

I refuse to attempt to understand it anymore, because clearly there are way too many people infected with this disease to continue to seek a cure.

Seriously, Live's down right now and I'm bummed. No Phantasy Star or Halo for me tonight :( I can't wait til all the new games come out in the next month or so.

As for the thread, anyone that doesn't get some sort of warranty while spending over $200 on a system is asking for trouble.

I bought a 360 with 4 games off a friend of mine and it's due to arrive on my doorstep tomorrow, and boy am I excited... One of those 4 games is NBA 2K6, though 2K7 is released here in 2 days time so I might trade 2K6 in at EB Games and grab 2K7.

grammar doesn't 'set me off.'

Lots of people struggle with grammar. It's the "X-Box" and sundry other variations that set me off. Thing is, almost everytime I see that, I see the other things as well.

Understandable. Speaking of the "XBox", any idea to why my XBox keeps cutting out during games with the "Your Disc may be damaged or dirty, ect.".
I can sometimes get some games in, then other times it goes to that screen. Before it goes to that screen, the game tends to lag pretty badly. It has happened with a couple of games lately. Is my system going?

methinks some people in this community need to focus more on getting vagina than the spelling of a video game system.

At least he's making an effort. I respect that.

Galaxy, try picking up a DVD lens cleaner, from Maxell or a similar company. That'd be the easiest and least expensive way to give it a shot. If that doesn't work, you could always open up the system and clean it manually, but I confess I don't know the first thing about doing it that way.

If you've got enough dexterity with technological gadgets, you can probably find a website that'll walk you through doing it the hard way.

My 360's power supply just started making noises about a week ago. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does - you can hear electrical sounds for about 3-5 mins and then it quits. Anyone else ever have this issue?

You got the extended warranty when you purchase it right.

If I was you return it and get a new one. Make sure its the latest revision date on it.

I had problems with the original XBox... they wouldn't take it back for free because it was out of warranty and I didn't get an extended one. Problem was, Canadians couldn't buy the extended warranty, it was only open to Americans. I complained, made a complaint with the BBB... got the system fixed, and three free games out of it.

XBox customer support sucks in general. When I first phoned when my system failed, the guy on the line said I should have expected a failure because the XBox was a sophisticated, complex, state-of-the-art machine. Best. Excuse. Ever.
